This is actually a good question. I have studied red auto paint over the years and have come to the conclusion most are either too far on the yellow side or too far on the blue side. Really hard to find a true red red. Not really a problem for me though, the only proper color for anything is yellow and it is impossible to find a bad shade of yellow.

IMG_3030.jpeg I painted my 1939 Indian 61 Chev Roman red which was the same as 51 Buick Matador red which was a DuPont color which owned Indian back then. Never go by the name as they change...

Go to your nearest PPG jobber and ask for straight DMD1677 Deltron Toner. Nothing more red out there, it's straight red pigment. Reduce to 1:1 with DT885 or DT895 reducer. It's basecoat, so it need to be clearcoated. There's a late model Ford red paint code that is just this toner and nothing else...

I also have Blue Blood on my roadster. Many people have said how much they like it.
In 2006 my brother and I looked at every red car at the LA Roadster exhibition. The first one we liked was a 36 roadster but the owner wasn't there so we looked until we found a Deuce that we also liked. The owner said it was HOK Blue Blood. We went back to the 36, this time the owner was there and he also said his was also Blue Blood. The two cars stood out amongst all the other roadsters. There's a lot of new reds since 2006 but I'm happy with the color I choose.

I love red cars but I think its one of the hardest colors to decide on. Just when I think I have selected the right one I see something else that looks a little better. I have sprayed several panels with several reds that I thought would work. Although not the purest red I will probably go with the 53 Ford Vermillion because its going on my 55 F100 that is a replacement for my 53 F100. At least it will be traditional and correct for a Ford of that era. Its either that or Ferrari Corsa, or GM or etc etc etc. Good Grief I hate being so wishy washy. There are lots of beautiful reds out there but trying to get one that is bright and doesn't go orange in the sun is a bit of a struggle.

GM Bright Red (also called Flame Red) #81, GM code WA8774 started using in 1984 thru 2003. Original colours, R = Regal Red and V = Cameo Beige. (a darker blood red)

Note: there is no mismatch of colour on the panels, just the way the light is hitting it.

  20. I don't know the name but I like checker board tablecloth red. We saw them all the time 50 or so years back. I saw a Harley that color. Wow.

I like free red. My buddy passed away and I inherited a gallon of Viper red. I had a red Miata that was hit in the front so I painted the front end with my free paint. It didn't match and I didn't care.

My LT-1 Vette roadster was painted that color...apparently. It was a very cool red, 1971 Mille Miglia Red. Very Italian, made the car much faster...apparently

Mid 50's Olds Festival Red was quite popular, that's what I used on my truck. IMG_5658.JPG
