    Nice Car
The paint store did me a favor by painting 3 paint cards, all Roman Red using 3 diffrent brands of paint.
The windsheild wiper grill is removable, so while it was off we the buffed lip that is protected from sunlight under the hood to compair the paint cards to get a match.
The Limco paint color "lowest cost"had too much orange
The Matrix paint $200.00 more color came out very close, this is the one we used
The third one "most expensive" was way orange, like camaro hugger orange.
So there was a big diffrence and if your paint supplyer will do it check out some diffrent brands on paint cards before you squirt it on.

Classic old thread. I'll chip in; my wife is a red freak, according to her, the whole world should be red. Of course she is wrong, the whole world should be yellow, but I humor her. When you start studying the color red you come to the realization that a true red is almost impossible to find. They are either a blue red or an orange red. What is really in the middle?

A lot of that is down to your eyes and their perception of the light they recieve.

My left eye differs noticably from my right when looking at reds- what my right eye sees as a deep crimson, my left sees as a muddier orange-red.

So I'm sure there's variance on what's "really" red.

Being color blind, I always wonder if the color I think I'm seeing is what everyone else is seeing . But then, are all the people who aren't color blind seeing the same color ? o_O

I bought a two tone green car years ago and when I got home my wife told me it was two tone gray...............true story.

That triggered a thought. Some of you may remember me mentioning my girlfriends 56 on other threads.

She had told me there was something on the net the previous owner Carl Morrison had put together on the car. Low and behold I found it and twice it mentions "Victory Red". Good to know :)

If you like, here is a link of the 56's build and how it looked when Carina purchased it. https://cjmorrison.tripod.com/Chevy.html

Ha, the best red color? Easy answer--its the one that you sit with the paint mixer guy and have him add components until you get exactly what YOU feel is the best color. After that, you'll be happy with the finished job and no regrets.

Didn't read the thread so I am not sure if it was mentioned or not.

The perfect red color is the one that the wife picks out because she is the one you need to keep happy.

    We tried that.

She picked out an HOK red...that was expensive....even for HOK.

    Like $300/quart or something stupid.

I told her to pick something else.

    1965 327 El Camino

    Hello,

After years of ridicule of having a “salmon pink reddish” color on my Flathead powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery, was over. It was daily and nightly calls on my sedan delivery as to what color it was supposed to be. The original owner, that I knew from junior high school and high school had built up a 348 powered sedan delivery.

For his last effort, he had painted the sedan delivery on his driveway plastic enclosure. It was done late night into the early morning. I am sure he was very tired and the late night darkness on the driveway/garage made the color mix a little off.

    upload_2022-2-15_4-6-2.png
He had told me that being tired and sleepy made the mixture a little less bright red/orange and more of a salmon pink. Most of the drive-in restaurant crowd that saw the newly painted sedan delivery roll into the drive-in restaurant parking lot one night were wowed at the new build, but had questions about the paint color. It was impressive at night, but we were all impressed with the sound of power coming from the 348 Chevy motor.

It was not until later that night that the question of salmon pink came into being. The parking lot lights did a number on everyone’s paint and the latest paint job turned from orange-red to a salmon pink in most everyone’s eyes.

I bought the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery despite the ridicule of salmon pink being thrown around. No one could surf and the sedan delivery was my surf transportation during this time. So, it did not matter, the sedan delivery was just a cool hot rod to drive anywhere along the So Cal coastline. Luckily, the surf movies were usually at night and then it looked orange red from the street lights leading to the auditoriums in So Cal. It was a cool moment for my salmon pink sedan delivery.

But, by the time we left high school and were ready to go off to college, I sold the Flathead sedan delivery and purchased a new, 327 powered 1965 red El Camino. Since I ordered it from the dealer, I was able to get the color I wanted. The accessories I wanted were not available, 4 speed, 396 motor and bucket seats ala the SS package.

So for the next 10 years of road trips/vacation coastal drives up/down the coastline of California and into the hot desert climate, the red paint stood out like no other. It took Blue Coral Wax in many coats and then an extra coat of Classic Car Wax to keep it shiny and clean, including the well-used pickup bed.

Sold in 1975 with 125k miles of great color and road trips, just about everywhere. Within a month of the sale, we saw it in Dana Point, now painted a dark blue color. So much for red...

I looked at a lot of different red colors, and I wanted to stay with a factory color, regardless of what year car it was originally on. In the end I chose 1974 Corvette Dark Red Metallic #74. It had lots of gold metallic in it, and was the perfect shade of dark red I wanted for my particular car. It looks different under every lighting condition it's exposed to, and I like that.

All I know is that if you are going to put in a red interior it better match.
We bought our leather first and had the paint store match it.

I've always thought of the darker reds as more of a burgundy or maroon. House of Kolor "Blue Blood" that is on my 64 F100 is my personal favorite red. GM "torch red" on this 34 truck I painted is very nice also (a little orange in some lighting).

My cousin Larry’s freshly built 37 Ford Coupe. Will debut next weekend at the NSRA York Nats East at the indoor display.
It’s a new factory Jeep color.
