This ever happen to you? I received an invoice for a missed toll in the great state of Illinois (The title, I know... but there is no catchy song about Illinois). Anyhoo, seems someone over there is running around racking up tolls, $20 so far and they seem to think it is moi. Just to be clear I live in the so so state of Washington some 2124 miles toward the left.

I went to the DMV locally this morning, assuming I missed filling out a sold vehicle report on one the cars and low and behold it is one of my current projects...the 41 Ford PU that I am building here on the HAMB. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/yeah-its-got-a-hemi-41-shop-truck.1112750/

Seems someone liked my 1941 restored YOM WA Truck license plate enough to copy it and paste it on there number plate in Illinois. Some peoples kids! I called to sort things out as it is impossible for it to have been my vehicle and they are closed to day for a holiday.

I googled "what holiday is today" and found out it is National Pizza Day so I am thinking about closing my office early and taking the gang to the Round Table across the street. I guess it is also Mr. Lincolns B'day (observed, and more likely the cause of the closure) so I will call Monday and sort things out.

Just a reminder about posting your license plates on the internet. There are morons watching.

  2. President Lincoln, from Illinois, has a birthday every February 12. State offices are closed today in observance of the Birthday being on Saturday this year.

Here is the Illinois Tollway site:
    https://www.illinoistollway.com/

Here is the info on pay by plate, which is new. Previously you needed a transponder.
    https://www.illinoistollway.com/paybyplate

I wish you good luck getting this straightened out.

Thanks for the link but they don't offer anyway to contest the invoice on-line it seems. It'll wait till after the weekend. Enjoy your holiday.

Bassturds...they will regret that decision...karma has a way of catching up with you...

They made a fake plate...in many ways this practice of punching out lookalikes should be outlawed...

What's the chance they randomly picked the numbers?

It could happen...ones lucky #s might just be your plate #...

  8. Ummmm,,,,,I’m pretty sure it is already against the law to make a fake license plate .

Stogy is referring to companies who will make any state plate with any number on it for show or collector use. And it they banned it what would all the piss yellow, 32 coupes hang on the front end if they can't get THX 138?:cool:

Take a pic of you truck in with you. He if you don’t pay a toll you get a pic of the vehicle in the mail and a 6 dollar notice to pay.

Eh, all it takes is a screwdriver and the work of fifteen seconds for someone to take off with my plate. They could use a notepad and pencil, too. Or the camera on their phone.

Granted, the Internet makes it easier but if someone's going to clone a plate, they gonna do it.

I'm from Illinois and had a similar situation with Texas. It turned out there was an Illinois semi truck plate number the same as my passenger car.

them buttholes wanted to fine me when the battery in my transponder went dead. how was i to know? the transponder is registered to my vehicles. if your vehicle goes through but the reader couldn't read the transponder, they would bill it anyway since the plate is registered to the transponder. they said it was extra work to bill it out that way and wanted me to pay two or three times the toll rate for their trouble.

Yeah, I made myself hungry so I had a pie delivered to the office. It figures that on the birthday of a great American President we would celebrate with a food we stole from the Italians and top with bacon from Canada and cheese named for a city in England. I pick off the pineapple, fruit doesn't belong on pizza or in beer, I don't care who's birthday it is!

  19. Hey Billy, come to think of it, I got one of those letters years ago from Illinois, didn't realize the I-pass was out of money, but there was a picture of my truck, front and rear with the license plate. Is that what you got? I'm sure it won't be a problem. Tell them to show you a picture of your 41 blowing through the toll gate :D

Could be like Maryland. They are all “working from home”; but when you call all you get is an endless voicemail loop.

  22. There have been cases of people getting fines, which seem impossible… then they see the picture and the car/motorcycle is actually on the back of a flatbed truck.

funny, as long as you’re not the one who has to sort it out.

No pictures with mine and no vehicle description, just the 81 year old WA plate number. I had to have the DMV look it up to see what car it was as I never thought to check a truck that has never gone more than 3 blocks around the subdivision.

Good advice. Monday is Valentines day afterall and National Crème Filled Chocolates day. You can't expect people to be open for business when there's a chocolate celebration going on.

At their own peril...that would be a stinger, that's for sure...

It would likely go unnoticed to until an offence is registered or the plate is run through a check for any reason...

@Bandit Billy is it an Illinois plate with your plate number or is it a complete clone including your state and year of plate?

There is a chance the # of that Illinois plate was ran through the system and it didn't pick up a Washington connection...

Maybe it's legal to have the same number as long as the State on the plate is different...

There are flaws in just about all this new tech-gimmickry. They ought understand it.

True, though, is the fact that anyone should not post a plate (tag) number.

"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of mankind? The Shadow knows"
I like to crap myself when on another site a fellow was bragging of his rare parts scores. The pics included his garage and truck and tag. Here's to good luck.

    Thanks For Sharing.

They didn't send a picture of the plate. They merely referenced the number XXXX (WA)
They know it is a WA tag, not Illinois. And an all digit plate that hasn't been used since 1958 in this state when we started using three letter and three numbers.

It's possible your YOM search executed didn't extend to Illinois...I suspect the plate in Illinois is a New plate issued to a vehicle that takes such a sequence of numbers...but is not a Washington plate as you have stated to them...

As said I hope this is resolved and your vintage plate remains valid...

Thinking about this a bit more, you’ll get this straightened out I’m sure. But what about the next several months and …etc. Maybe a call to someone in Illinois that can put a warrant out on the vehicle that is using your plates, might be something to look at.
I treat going to the DMV like going to the dentist;)
