Mike Waters and Dean Murray roadster, 330" Chevy V8, torsion bar rear end by Indy car builder Clint Brawner. Its remains were found and perfectly restored. It went to Texas after Waters and Murray sold it to Don Morgan, who replaced the Chevy with a blown Chrysler.

The rear of that body resembles the small German Messerschmidt (sp?) from the ‘50’s.

I'd doubt if they had trouble holding the front wheels on the ground.

Jim Seaton ran a number of cars at Santa Maria, including this one that he had Barris Customs build. Karen White photo

Jim Fox, at left, and Dennis Holding lower their blown Chrysler into Jim's purple rear engine modified roadster.

    waterworth bantam 2.jpg
Fred Waterworth usually ran an Olds in his Bantam coupe, but here he has borrowed a Chrysler. Fred ran out of Ak Miller's shop in Whittier, CA.

    34 ford crash.jpg
Hot Rod Magazine ran this after action photo of a crashed '34 Ford coupe to show the advantage of a well-built roll bar. That roll bar would not pass tech today, but for 1957, it was better than usual.

Ono, Lew, and Gonzales, blown Olds powered modified roadster at Lions, Bill Scharing photo.

    reed brothers bakersfield '55.jpg
The Reed brothers belly tank at Bakersfield. The car didn't usually run at the drags, but apparently the crew decided to try out the quarter mile. The lakester rolled at Bonneville in '55, killing driver John Donaldson, and finally leading to what it did not have in this photo, a roll bar. American Hot Rod Foundation photo (are you a member)?

Progress Unlimited Bantam coupe at the Oakland Roadster Show. The coupe never made the drag strip, and the blown Chrysler ultimately went into a drag boat.

    miller connell caddo.jpg

Well built for its time, at Caddo Mills, Texas. Connell Miller, who took some great pictures of Texas drag racers, doesn't recall who ran the car.

    lakewood Santa Ana Drags 150.jpg
Bob Alsenez, in the Lakewood Auto Parts sponsored car, leaves the Santa Ana starting line. This was a former Bean Bandits car, here running Clarke Cagle's Ardun. Notice Manuel Coelho's twin flathead, 4-wheel drive dragster in the background. That car became the basis for Mickey Thompson's twin Chrysler dragster that ran 294mph at Bonneville.

    Kelly auto nitrous hordemann.jpg
Jim Hordemann's not disguised nitrous system, in the Kelly Automotive fueler, out of Spokane, Washington.

  16. That's because it's one of the glass bodies Bill Coburn made. He made the mold off the Iron Mistress Messerschmidt body.

Larry Sutton in his Sunday best (striped coat and bow tie).
He did starting chores at all of the Southern California tracks at one time or another. He was a long time fixture at the main three. Lions, Irwindale and Orange County Raceway. I think he even started at Palmdale Raceway a time or two. Fontana ?
He either had a coupla hundred of those hats, or that one was pretty rancid smelling from out in the 100+° summer days, by the end of his (SoCal drag strips days) carrier.
