   ...Downunder Thunder...is that @swifty by chance?

Anyone know if any of these made it over here back in the day?

Be pretty cool to make one of these out of a clapped out 2 or 4 door...

  4. I saw this "T" coupe at Half Moon Bay dragstrip in 1956-57. IIRC the owner was Buzz Sawyer.

The radiator is probably fro a mid-30s Ford. Those long batteries were cool. They fit well along the inner fenders in the straight 8 cars.

  7. This looks like the bank of the Connecticut river, in Wethersfield, Connecticut when they were building interstate 91. They used these bodies for fill along the river bank. I spent a few days poking around to see what I could find of value.

Yes I see that on the Fender Skirt on the quarter panel...I also see a symbol that also found it's way onto the Little Deuce Coupe...a reflection of the times like the WW11 Helmets in the Bike Culture...it was the nuke era 60s and the car culture was not all pretty...I still revell in the Car itself along with its generously applied Graphics by none other than Big Daddy himself...he was just doing as instructed...they were different times...

These are huge mods undertaken by Bob Crowell...he was quite a metalworker...I don't know my Deuces well enough to see these subtle differences...but I suppose if I put an OEM side to side it would no doubt become obvious...

Nick, do you know anything about the Drag Coupe I shared that has obvious connections to Crowell?

@Stogy I stole this image off the internet. On the car above the entire roof is sunk "into" the body (see the rear quarter glass). On a 32 the top sits "on" the body.
The result is a car that looks chopped from the back but not from the sides or front...I think o_O

Yes I realize that, I think Nick is saying the area below the windshield was reduced/sectioned on top of the section you speak of...a mini section of sorts...

    20220211_175812.png

I suspect the cowl hood sides and grille were sectioned accordingly...no small feat by any means...

What I understood was it is a non chop but a section stretching from just aft of the top and extending forward to and including the Grill and Shell...

If they were to section the area under the Windshield they probably adjusted the cowl to fill the void rather than take a sliver out of the top...the link back at the original post has scans of the magazine coverage which may explain the details...Bob also did several different sections of inches removed and yes it is a pretty complex rework...

Got enough wrinkles but sorry @Stogy it's not me. Anyway as my son points out we don't muck around with late model stuff, Hot Rods only came in one year LOL Note the steering wheel is on the wrong side for us.
BTW Waddingtons in Castlemaine pressed out 34 Roadster utes and took them to the US to sell . I think they sold a few but they eventually dropped the project.

  19. Bandit Billy, look at the picture that you posted, and the picture preceding it. you will see the area under the windshield frame where material was removed.

  20. Stogy, you are correct in pointing out where the material was removed. I was fortunate to see these coupes when I lived in San Francisco 1956-1958. Also Stogy, thanks for the compliment about me doing the walk. I never really thought about it, but I guess that I was fortunate to be able to be there ,and still able at 81 years old to still be able to be there.

"Tracknose Drag Roadsters were banned from racing due to tragic incidents I understand or perhaps it was the rear engined ones?"

Please expound on this as I'm not understanding what you're saying.

I believe I read here on the Hamb that in the early to mid sixties there were changes made to either ban or eliminate these type of drag Roadsters due to the number of critical incidents at the track...

    15 (1).jpg

Anyone aware of the situation regarding these Drag Roadsters?...please do tell...

Stan I'm trying to find the information I'm speaking of...The Speed Sport Roadster was one that comes to mind...Perhaps they were just classed out by the changes...It seems the mid 60s was when they started to be retired...

Perhaps I misread what I'm speaking of...my apologies if that is in fact untrue...

@Jimmy B is quite in the know regarding Track Nose T Roadster history and perhaps he chime in and clarify what became of these in 1/4 mile racing...I wondering if it was shared in one of his Threads...

Its a WWI Hispano Suiza V8 airplane motor. I wonder if this is the Model A roadster that raced out of Northern California with a Hisso motor in roadster racing. There also were a few sprint cars that raced with half of the motor with the 404 Hisso being famous out of Nor Cal.

  28. Thanks for the info!
