Fred Jones, pictured here, with no formal engineering education, designed and built the first mechanical transport refrigeration unit. This absolutely revolutionized the refrigerated transport industry which up until then had to rely only upon ice to maintain temperature for its product. The brand Thermo King is a result of his efforts.
