I'm not big on clones except in tribute to a long-gone car or one that has disappeared off the face of the earth but is rumored to still exist.

On the other hand there are several very neglected old rods or customs that I wish the owner or a new owner would take and restore to their original glory and back to As close visually as they were when they were freshly built. It's fine to roll out that old custom with the cracked and pealing lacquer and the carson top that is more gone than there along with the rotted out quarter panel for a couple of big shows but good grief, leaving that poor thing to rot away because you claim to not want to disturb it's original build is total nonsense.

I'd like to build a clone of the Turbonique chevelle. To exhibition race or the VW black widow with the same axle. I know the VW flew but i'll just get my private pilots license. :D

Another one I just thought of, when I first joined the HAMB there was a car called the "Black Flame" that was for sale really cheap, it was a really wild custom. Honestly not all that pretty, but you could tell it had an enormous amount of work done to it. I had strongly considered buying it and attempting a fix. I would love to see that car functional again, even if not totally restored.

And wasn't someone restoring that super customized gold '55-'57 Chevy convertible, the one that sat outside for years down south somewhere? What ever happened to that?

Moonglow. Early Moonglow when it was white and simple. A true backyard build.

I saw the Black Flame at the KKOA leadsled show in the 80's, at that time it was dragged out of long term storage but was still restorable . I think after that it was left outdoors or in real damp storage somewhere because it sure looked rotten when it was advertised for sale a while back....

    Duplicated or Restored?

I'd love to see the Frank Sonzogni Merc restored as it appeared on the cover of Rod and Custom, April 1955. (pre pinstriped)

For duplicated ... The Dave Burgarin Merc as it appeared on the cover of Car Craft, July 1955. That was the first version with the 53 Buick headlight bezels, not the dual stacked quads.

Yes I did Tony, they are similar to mine, but lack the small round and flat dimples, for attaching the wheel weights, like mine. I now have a set of Halibrands as well. Thanks !

  22. I was trying to examine the picture for that. Didn't look like they were there, but the more I enlarged the pic, the harder it was to see!

  24. Phil's roadster looks exactly like it did when it won the AMBR trophy in 1978.
It was put up for sale in 2021.

I was sitting at home when I received a call from some photographer. He asked if I could bring the R&C Dream Truck to San Carlos for a quick photo shoot. Absolutely, and away I went. He mentioned that there would be another car there, and we'd meet at the owners house. When that garage door opened, I nearly crapped my knickers!! There sat Cunningham's '40. I offered to trade straight across, and I think the guy thought I was kidding. I wasn't, as I loved that critter, right from the beginning. Actually, I would have taken it back a few notches, to when it was really nice, and simple.
Anyway, with it's demise, I would love to see it replicated, and would do it myself, but I'm too damned old. Somebody, please, bring it back !!!! daves 40 sedan.jpg

    I’ve always like this ride.
I would have to consider this if I run across some 28-9 rpu bits

I’m on the other side of the fence, I do not like clones. They have been done once why do them again. I don’t get why anyone would want a clone the graffiti coupe along with the hundreds of others out there. Be original and do your own thing.
