DSCN1147.JPG I cheaped out for now. About 4 months ago I wanted to finally get it rolling, so I had my local mechanic get me some inexpensive Cooper tires. The 4 of them with mounting wouldn't have bought the rears let alone shipping and mounting.

As I'm probably a year or 2 from completing the Whatever project I figured these would do for now.

But in the future, it's getting TC tires

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback

I know this is an old post. But could you tell me what rear tire size and width those are on the digger. Thank you.

Just got my set. Very happy. Nice people to deal with. Set me straight on the size I needed. Delivered on time, made to order,3 1/2 weeks from purchase. Didn't charge my credit card until they were ready to ship. Great business model.

Towel City has changed from used casings to using bran new casings to build their pie crust slicks now! So not really a recap anymore, and not being old casings the quality is even better than they used to build!

Nice to know. Thanks for all the comments. I'm still planning to use their tires 2 or so years down the road. I wonder how the Whatever would look with their tires both ends, roughly 1 inch difference in width... Just a random neuron firing! Got to finish it first

Have ran Towel City pie crusts on my 57 for 2 plus years with no issue. Don’t want to get stuck out in the rain with them tho!

Don't buy them too soon if your plan is a 2 year delay before the car is street worthy! The warranty clock begins ticking the day they ship them, and you could find out if you had a problem there's no warranty left if you take 2 yrs. to finish the car.
Might call and ask if they'll let you buy them now, but delay starting the warranty until you get the car road worthy? Not sure if they do this, but it's worth asking Daniel if he will. If he wont then I'd wait, even if it means paying more two years later.

since they are on radial casings, how are they on the street with bias ply cycle tires up front?
    something like this application?

Am I imagining things or did they, Towel City, at one time make the real early "bullet hole" sidewall style slicks as well?

Truth! I was at a cruise in/memorial for a local at a park out of town this last year. It started raining so I put the top up and headed for home on wet, curvy, mountain roads. The back end was trying to pass me constantly!

Made me think of an invention, rain galoshes for drag tires. Sort of like snow chains, a temporary, low speed, traction aid that you can slip on like a ribbed condom. Maybe I should go on Shark Tank?

I've asked this question before, and the consensus seems to be that they work fine like that. I've had some bad experience mixing bias and radial ply tires on the same vehicle, but the guys that have done this say it works OK, no odd handling issues.

That's my plan. I currently have the Whatever rolling on some inexpensive Cooper tires that would be usable to start, Cobra GTs. They just don't look the part. And if I decide I can't stand them when I eventually get this thing finished, I can always use them on something, what I don't know. But they are the approximate diameter and width I want for each end, within a quarter inch of the real diameter, once I get the tires I'd like. And my suspension is easily adjustable for ride height!

I have a set on the back of my Nash that are probably 8-10 years old. Lots of burnouts. Much better than the old hurst tires. Prettt sticky when new.

15 x 8 Americans with 4 1/2 backspace, I gotta disconect bottom shock bolts and lower the rear axle for enough room to take em off and on ;)

    Great company,..... great company.

  27. Rick, I ran my cheaters on my 54 with small radials, 205's, in the front and they drove fine. The same set of Cheaters went onto the T with bias ply cycle tires up front and I never had an issue.

They're a pretty stiff, heavy sidewall casing, so not thin and flexible like lighter radial cases. They should work fine with your bias ply front tires, and maybe even better than bias ply rears would work.

As has been said. Great company and tire. Stay out of the rain.
