Upper mounts, can you tell where the powder coat prep. guys turned the barn fan on and blew my gas away and I had to run back over?

  3. The rear bumper is coming right along, I wanted the vintage look of a steel channel bumper but not the weight. I will be plating/gusseting it as well.

Fabing test fitting the upper bridge.

    Tacked up.

Does anyone else T.I.G. weld everything?
    upload_2022-3-3_18-4-3.png

Backside, of course the best looking weld is on the back where it can't be seen.

Ah yes, safety beads as they were called over here. Most were madefrom rebar in this area. Yeah ugly but effective. BTW Robert, you're working your father like a government mule cutting stuff with a hacksaw. You should look into a protable bandsaw and SWAG Offroad stand to makeit into a small vertical bandsaw. I did that last year and it really saves time. sweat, cursing... DSCN1118.JPG Won't cut big things, but those brackets, piece of cake. That back bumper looks great.

  7. That OR, for straight cuts you don't mind knocking out 1/8" material, I just got one of those Evolution tungsten carbide chop saws and it is VERY effective and super quick. It chops tube like butter. I had a lot of trouble getting consistently straight cuts with my portaband.

I hate my old abrasive chop saw. I'm going to look into that one. Besides mine is on its last legs...

That's all him, he like using a hack saw. I don't mind using it either.

My back and hands can't stand the stress any more. And I'm soout of practice with the cutting torch, that's a non-starter. So my only recourse was to get a bandsaw. Real ones are too expensive, hence the mini saw. Used it a lot today. My body still hurts...

For anyone wondering, I began "water marking" my photos because I have seen them (lifted from the H.A.M.B) and my work posted with people claiming it as their own.

  12. Today's racecar progress was cut a little short due to a basset hound with a sore mouth (thinking tooth ache, keeping an eye on her and a trip to the vet's office tomorrow) Photos of right rear shock mount and rear bumper mount fabrication.

Not bad but a too heavy.

Every time you post someone working on your car, it's your father! Makes me chuckle every time! BTW will you be at the swap/show at Morris Ford April 10th?

  15. I do work on the car but dad can't figure out how to take a photo with a camara that doesn't use film, so there aren't any photos unless I set the self timer.
I need to weld something for him at work I tacked it up and call him (on the home phone he doesn't own a cell phone) to tell him know I was going to send photos to mom's phone for him to look at and make sure it was how he wanted it.
He said just to bring it home he would look at it and I could weld it up the next day.
I told him I would just send them to mom and he could have it that night.

His reply "She won't know how to do that! No one knows how to do that crap!!"

Yes, mom did know how to do it and dad was amazed someone over the age of 16 knew how to do it.

Yes, the plan is to set up outside Terry Morris.

Great, I'll look for you there. Nephew ratrodder is coming over from eastern Massachusetts and we're planning on getting there early, but hey I'm old. Getting out of bed early isn't something I have to do much anymore!

Don't know what I'll be looking for so I'm keeping my options open. One thing is 35-36 Ford truck front spindles, but I'm not going to hold my breath...

  18. Tired of seeing my rear bumper? The bumper fabrication is finished. I also added a little triangulation to the rear of the frame.

Starting the fabrication of bumper extensions.

A little triangulation to stiffen the rear of the car, this will also be part of the fuel cell frame/cage.

  20. I ended up skipping the Burnt Hills swapmeet today to put some more work on the racecar.

Started on the rear body mounts and tacked the under windshield panel to the stock gas tank/cowl top. It's almost race ready number and all.
    upload_2022-4-10_18-47-15.png

Dad fabricated the lower mount 1"x1" angel I welded it in, I am not happy with the welds and I am going to fix them.

    I even did some lettering...
    upload_2022-4-10_18-58-38.png

    ...I clearly missed my calling.
    upload_2022-4-10_18-59-55.png

Was there ever a question what number I was going to run?

Nice Robert! It was a little cold at the swap meet. And still your father doing the work!

Hey I'm going to bust on you every time for that...

So will you get to the track with it this year? I'm thinking that I need to make a trip west and check it out.

  26. I let Ron Wheeler @wheeldog57 use my space at the Fitchburg MA swapmeet (Today 04-24-22) because the clubs first race of the season at Fonda speedway was the night before (Last night 04-23-22)

The races were canceled as I was on the road, but at least I got to see the new fence on the outside of turns one and two...

...and I made progress on the racecar today (Sunday 04-24-22), by making some steering clearance on the wishbones.

Nice old school front suspension. And I bet your father hacksawed those gussets, didn't he?

Okay that's better! Respect your father and elders! Well, not me, but the rest of the crowd.

I've got to take some time and get out your way to see your car in person. Probably not until later this spring... so many social events... that is doctor's appointments. And I have to clean up the garage.
