No, I did not test it - to be honest, I just wanted it done. This years Jalopyrama is 32s and 40s - I have about two months that should I get lucky, I can take my truck to it. We shall see ……

More smalls today. I got the power steering pump bracket and pump installed …..

I then removed the distributor in order to get at the fitting I need to provide vacuum to the power brake booster and started working on the line from the booster to the port. I also have a plan on how to use the stock bracket for my throttle cable, kick down linkage already had a location, and the transmission vacuum module location. Still working a few things out but we are getting there.

With the distributor out I ordered all new components as it was cobbled together in order to fire the engine at the engine shop, got new wires, and some other bits. Let me tell you - I had a time getting the stuff. First off, I had to deal with a newbie at the counter and I basically taught him how to search for parts, without knowing the year, make and model, and for a hot Rod, and to his credit he done good. The balance of the parts will be here on the 8th. I also picked up a heater hose that has a nice right angle bend at one end to install on the fitting just below the compressor - yep, you can’t see it in the pics because it s buried but it’s there.

I am all ready looking ahead after all of the finalizing of engine wiring, brackets, and lay out to when I start re-installing the radiator and all that goes with it and then the battery setup.
It’s coming along, little by little ….

My titanium wrap came in today and I finished up the passenger side exhaust. The exhaust is now officially completed ….

I tried to make the wrap be mostly on the tranny side with the opening pointing down. There is at least 6” between it and anygas, tenant, or AC lines.

I continued on the the vacuum line for the brake booster - I bent up a solid line from the booster to one side of where the steering column comes through the firewall. I finally came up with a plan for the valve location, drilled it for the throttle linkage, trimmed the bracket a bit, and painted it. The weather was not conducive for quick drying unfortunately.

Going to a swap meet tomorrow with Gabby - should be back on the project on Sunday ……

Back on the project and worked n the bracket/setup of the throttle cable, kick down linkage, on booster vacuum line, and return spring ….
    C29DE3C8-EF62-478B-931C-927DEB1713C4.jpeg
My biggest problem was the return spring - what I had in springs was either too long or too short. But in digging around I found a smaller spring but would still handle full throttle… 41517073-4373-4C21-892F-70C7E155B5EF.jpeg
I have to trim off my added little piece for the spring as yet ….

I will hold off on trimming the accelerator cable for now. I do not have carpet on the tranny cover as yet to determine the arm position.

Yezterday I got my fuel pressure regulator and I began looking for a good location. The passenger side of the firewall has virtually no room and I hesitate to put anything near the battery and trailer wiring. After a bit I just I decided to move the fuel line underneath from the passenger side to the driver side where I have room. I only put it on the passenger side because that’s where the carb fuel inlet is. Anyway, I should be able to reuse the line from underneath with a couple of mods. I also cut out the portion of the fuel line that crossed over underneath just to clean things up. I should be able to finish that up tomorrow ….

The Edelbrock geometry corrector may not be installed correctly.

I moved that little bracket off the carb in order for it to line up better with the kick down linkage. It has free movement and can go through its entire swing in order to operate properly. I turned it over so the stud for the stock kick down is to the inside, again trying to avoid a severe angle coming out of the cable. The 4.3 engine bracket was for a 700 which I am running and although was for a different carb, I believe this will work just as well.

One other note is that the 700 I am using is a no “lock up” unit and has the correct components installed to operate that way.

On the geometry corrector, the cable connector pin MUST be in correct location relative to the mounting screw.
In video it is to the rear and slightly above the screw.
Everything else has to work around this adapter.
Also the tab on the adapter, along with the screw makes it stay where it MUST be located.
Sorry to sound so strong, but it is the only way the TV cable operates correctly for every throttle position, preventing damage to trans.

First of all, thank you. I understand what you are saying. I have the Lokar SRK-4000 bracket setup coming in and I also have an Edelbrock stock kick down cable bracket.

looking at the intake, this would be on the last two intake bolts. Here is a pic of what’s coming in ….
    C382E8D2-5C91-4FAB-97B0-0D380FC4A332.jpeg
obviously I would not use the kick down cane portion. Is there a bracket setup for the Edelbrock just for the throttle cable and stick kick down cable?
    Thanks again ……

Based on what pprather has told and demonstrated to me, I removed the stock bracket. Nothing I had here in the shop would work for the kick down cable as the intake is a high rise for a Marne application probably. I was then stumped on what bracket to order for the cable. After searching a bit and not sure of what to get I called Edelbrock and they recommended Edelbrock bracket 8031. I have ordered it and it should be in on Thursday ….

I'm not concerned with the bracket that holds the cable at the rear of the carb.
I'm concerned about the little bracket that attaches to the carb linkage, that establishes the location of the pin where the TV cable attached to the carb.
Please watch the video I posted above.

I put the bracket that holds the cable back to its pictured location but I need something for the TV cable itself to bring I up and on line with that piece …..

Waiting on parts to come in for the cable redo, I did install the fuel pressure regulator after switching over the fuel line. I am waiting for a rt angle banjo fitting for the carb but it is all done ….

You can see the gauge in the upper left of the second picture. The fuel regulator comes to you set at 6.5 of pressure. My plan, and nice the carb fitting is is, is to put 5 gallons of gas in it, fire up the pump, adjust the pressure, and look for leaks. I am hoping the distributor parts come in tomorrow so I can get to work on all of that …..

Work on installing the helper springs today. Using 2 2x4s on Jack stands with small blocked at the top of the 2x4s right where the rear portion of the frame’s center X meets the rear portion of the frame rail, I suspended the rear. At this pint I left the shocks attached. Although it did drop down, I believe there would be a greater drop if the shocks were not attached but I am not sure it makes that much difference. I attached the helper springs to see where were were at fit wise ….

I am thinking that should be enough clearance. If not, I will drop the shocks and reinstall them once I try the camper. It was kind of a cold day so the parts painted took a while to dry. I was literally watching paint dry most of the agternoon!

Late today I picked up the rest of my distributor parts and my new wires ….. that’s for tomorrow ….

Thank you …. To be truthful, I used these on my old 40 coupe - I wanted it to ride low but be able to hold a load when we travelled. I was hitting the snubbers of my frame rails way too often until I put these on. They raised me about 1-2” but firmed up the ride very nicely - Your never hit thecsnubbers agin and the stance was killer. My coupe is pictured in the thread with “nice stance” or “nice ass” …. Lol!

At this point I am going to stay with my upside down 37 bumper just because! Lol!

Also, I received my TV cable bracket and got working on things. The bracket is an Edelbrock 8031 and is adjustable in multiple ways. Here is my first try ….
    193C95C4-9737-434B-ACCC-ABBB3CD6839A.jpeg
The TV cable can be pulled out about 1/8” and the cable has some flex in it so it’s a good start. I now know there are two different types of TV cable - one has an adjustment where it meets the head of the cable that goes through the bracket, and the other no (or else I have not played with it enough to see an adjustment).
    C9A50A42-87ED-4C7E-8C8C-9C76BA5FF797.jpeg
I also got my throttle bracket setup, SBK-4000. The two brackets just pass one another - it’s close but not touching.
    B2F03DF2-1518-43CD-A9DE-B576F36BCDBF.jpeg
This last pic shows it with everything in place. I am still waiting regarding the throttle cable cut and final install but the booster vacuum line, gas line, and breather hose to under the carb are all good.

I did play with distributors yesterday and today but I am still working on things. I may need some or an exchange of parts as of yet - we shall see.

It’s my Dad’s birthday tomorrow - he will be 98 and still going strong. We should all be this good even at 20 years younger than he is. Anyway, no car work the next few days. Back at it Sunday …..

Cable adjustments, this is how I would do it:
Start with throttle cable. Adjust it so butterflies are full open when the pedal is to the floor. Full open before the floor would be ok, too, I guess.

    Next, TV cable adjustment.
With the throttle fully open the TV cable should be FULLY extended. Done.

Correct TV cable adjustment is crucial to trans operation and longevity with 700R4.

    Hope this helps.

^^^^Good advice. That is how I adjusted the dodge 518A or 46RE in my truck. First the throttle so you have WOT and then I had my wife hold the throttle wide open as I pulled the TV cable taut through the same end that Tom is using above.

My good friend Koppy stopped over today for a visit and offered to help with the rear fender crack …. 0AFF7CAA-1E8F-4B16-9825-C1DFECFAEC60.jpeg

He put a cut in right at the crack, cleaned up the bondo in the immediate weld area, and tacked it together first at the fender lip. He did a little hammer and dollying to massage the are, put in a few more tacs, massaged it a little more got it pushed in more, and final welded it up. I will start with a half moon around the crack an 8-9” long, maybe 5” high. There’s a bondo crack above the crack from the repair that I will encompass.

I will work on this as time permits and get it all squared away and ready for paint bt once the weather is warmer and the truck is running so I can pull it out to spray it …..

An unexpected surprise - thanks Koppy!

So it has been a busy couple of days. Since the last two days have been absolutely gorgeous out, I did what I consider outside stuff. I assembled the grill ….

… and made the adjustment needed. I had to rework s e of my home- made grille repair/salvage but it all worked out well. That was my shortened first day - today I cleaned, sanded, and large d down some self etching primer and painted the grill ….

You can hardly see the lower repair/support unless you are running get on top of it. But when all was said and done, it really came out pretty nice. I swapped out the one pitted chrome center section for another one I have that is broken in the center - I covered it up with the V8 insignia ….

I have to clean it up yet but you get the best idea. While waiting for paint to dry all day I filled it with installing the radiator, AC condenser, electric fan and upper and lower hoses…. 56E210A1-B156-4783-A87E-6A336EAD6881.jpeg

I am still missing the external tranny cooler, engine fan (was ting on a spacer), a few clamps, replacing some clamps on the lower hose I do not like, and finalizing the tranny lines.

I have ordered a fan spacer as I said, ps hoses, and I pick up my distributor tomorrow so I can finish all the new ignition wires, gas line, air hose, heater hoses, vacuum lines, electric choke hookup, AC hoses, and trailer wiring.

Next up is to install the inner fender on the passenger front fender and finish the battery install. We are having waaay too much fun now!

Less than half a day today - I got my power steering hoses in and hooked them up ….
    86AAEAD1-4AAC-4BB8-A075-B4060E4CC36C.jpeg
I ordered the shortest set of hoses from Speedway @ 21” tip to tip. They each have a small loop in them but they are up and out of suspension interference and away from heat. I will probably be able to shorten the return line but I am going to wait just in case.

Picked up my now functioning distributor today - the problem was not me but another bad module …. 0931B3B6-E500-43EC-BBFE-55834D7DFC1A.jpeg
    It’s now in ….

I began sorting through wires and getting ready for the final push in that regard. Strangely enough, I cannot fond the tach wire. No biggie but just strange ….
My fan spacer is in so that is tomorrow along with transmission cooling lines, finalizing rad hoses, and check for fuel line leaks by running the fuel pump. I had thought of putting the inner fender panels to the front fenders but I think I will leave the fenders off. I have another upper grill piece and I am thinking of connecting the two inner fender panels to it with proper spacer so it is as close width wise as the real grill, and check to see if all my measuring paid off. Fingers crossed- lol!

They are all nice and snug with rubber sleeves to protect from chaffing where I thought it might occur. We then swapped out the lower radiator hose clamps, clamped the upper hose and got the heater hose in that’s under the compressor….

My fan spacer came in today and the fan is now done. Then it was time for a shop cleanup, fired up the roadster and checked it over for Cars and Coffee tomorrow morning here in town, and did some honey-dos.

With the time change I have been going back out to the garage after dinner cleaning up, planning what’s next, and finishing up what I could not before dinner. I really appreciate the time change - it keeps me going instead of being a couch potato after dinner …..
