Just finished catching up. Looks like you nailed it on the color but I'm still up for ideas you might like to see.

Thanks Eli... Glad you're caught up and have seen the truck in paint since you had so much to do with the design and the paint scheme.... Sure glad I didn't do blue and tan....

Installed the defroster vents Blue was kind enough to send me quite a while ago. They fit very nicely with just a few little brackets.. Made a cover for the stock Vette HVAC unit that makes more real estate in the center console. Hope to get a single DIN, 10" screen media receiver in that space...

I need the console completed for the upholstery guy I'm still waiting to hear back from...

My original plan for Buford was to tow the boat to Florida in February. I'm not sure I can bring myself to drive him in salt at this point...

Original plan was to put the tan seats I had installed in the truck back in..... However since I canned the tan strip on the exterior and have all blue and white on the outside as well as the inside of the doors it ain't looking good. I placed one of the tan bucket seats in the truck and it doesn't look as bad as the previously shown tan/blue exterior but it ain't good... I asked the upholstery guy for a quote to do all the interior panels and a separate one to reupholster the seats... He provided some prices that I think are pretty fair but I still have a hard time swallowing the additional seat work pricetag...

I am going to look at some gray donor seats from the same car as my tan ones... If they are decent I'll use those and have the interior done in gray... If not I guess I'll have to pull up my big boy pants and cough up the $$.

I would really like to do a white interior accented with blue as I think it would really pop. But I simply can't bring myself to attempt and live with trying to keep a white interior clean...

When I was hunting the wrecking yards, all I could find is grey seats. Finally found a couple sets of black leather. They are pretty close in design. The ones going in the sleeper came from a 3 row SUV. They will need to tumble as I plan on having a queen size bed in the sleeper. I love the look of a white interior too, but white and I do not get along. :)

Interior switch to gray has begun... passenger and rear donor seats are like new... Driver's is very good, minor checking on the left upper and lower bolsters that I can live with for now... Maybe have the upholstery guy fix it at some point... New_Seats.jpg

Simple, interesting idea to cover up some of the plastic which houses the seat switches...

  14. I'm going to have air ride pedestals under my seats, so skirting will be a must for me.

Got probably half the Dynamat in yesterday. Smaller pieces easy, bigger ones a challenge...

Culled down the driver's seat harness from 20-30 wires to 4. Could not get the seat heat elements to work despite what appears to be a correct wiring diagram. I figured 12+ and GND directly to them and bypassing all the ECM controlled stuff should light them up but no joy...

PVC console is moving ahead slowly... Figure out next step, cut pieces, glue, go do something else, repeat.... It has a 10" media receiver screen, AC vents and the HVAC controls installed. I may hide the knob for my blingy, multicolored dash lights in there somewhere.

Finalize material and colors for interior this weekend. He will start on it mid April... Imagine that, an actual interior! Current plan is off white headliner and side panels down to the white/blue body line. Light grey with some type of character lines for the next 8-10" then the darker grey to the floor. The gray colors and patterns will hatch the new donor seats. I had not planned on door panels at this time instead opting to have them painted the same as the exterior. I may revise that plan and bite the bullet on panels....

New dash and console coming along... I think the PVC console will look pretty good once it's upholstered...

Re the seat heating elements, did you do a continuity test to make sure they're not open somewhere?

Not sure I'm smart enough for that... The diagram shows 4 wires going to/from the seat bottom heater to/from the seat heat module. I suspect 2 are delivering +/- and the other 2 are for communicating +/-back to the seat heat module... But since I'm guessing and can't actually see the connection on the heat pads, I think I'd be guessing at continuity test results.....

In talking to a friend, I think I may have been reading the wiring diagram incorrectly... There's still hope...

"I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken".

  20. I learned the hard way about wiring diagrams a few weeks back! I let the smoke out of my brand new pyrometer, $129 up in smoke.

Its easy, heating elements are basically resistors. Set your voltmeter to measure ohms, then check all four leads, starting with a meter lead on one wire and touching the other meter lead to the other wires. A digital meter will typically read "OL" ( no connection/open circuit) while a reading of some numeric value would tell if there is a connection. Repeat with the first meter lead on the second wire, checking the third and fourth and so on. As a reference point, before you check the heating elements, touch the two leads of the meter together and it should read less than 1 ohm. Using an*****og meter, the needle would go to zero. I'm guessing there are two heating elements so you should be able to get a connection between two pairs of wires.

Running boards, valances and windshields installed.... Slowly getting there.... Quite happy with the white color decision on the windshield frame... The WS seal install went MUCH better than the first time with hints of start at the corners and use silicone lube from the glass guy.....

Upholstery guy called, can't get the perforated material we selected which matches one of the colors on the donor seats... I see similar stuff on the interweb... we'll see where we land on that... Figured out mods to a canopy I have to keep over the truck while at the upholstery shop... The truck doesn't fit in his garage...

Mirrors and side glass installed. finally got all the anti-rattle stuff in the doors... What a PIA that was... First batch I'd had on the shelf for 6 years would not bend without breaking. Second try was a new 8' piece from Wescotts... It was much more forgiving to bend albeit still not easy.. And then getting all those silly clips in place... I laid the piece into the door and marked the hole locations, removed it and installed the clips. Then I placed it back in the door. Some clips went right in, some fought really hard... I scratched the door with one of them.... :-(

I also attempted to install a door lock in the driver's door where an empty hole had always been... Looked at new cylinder, ok... Hmm, set screw to hold it in place... Oh there's the hole for the set screw.. Seems quite large compared to the supplied screw... Are there threads in there?? Maybe... Ok, this square arm on the lock goes into something inside the door to lock... Hmmm... there is NOTHING on the latch plate in that area.... Maybe it was an option in 1941? All removed by Coca Cola or the farmer cuz it wasn't working??

Found out if I remove the 3 screws from the back of a new SS, convex mirror that the nuts for them just fall into the mirror housing with no apparent way to get them out... Fortunately, I had a second one so I could replace my right hand black plastic model... I also had a second peep mirror to replace the left one that I must have thrown grinder dust at cuz the mirror surface was badly pitted.

... then there was the latch mechanism itself that needed a little welding....

fortunately, I ended the day with some progress cuz it sure seemed like I was slipping backwards most of the day...

Dynamated all the floors, walls and cab ceiling... Ran out before covering the sleeper ceiling.. Ordered a few more pieces... Now up to 470 freakin dollars for Dynamat... Ouch... I hold out hope that it will make the interior like a different truck... we'll see...

No sunlight for Buford over the weekend... maybe today... I need to get my newly remounted engine windows installed, plug up the wiper shaft holes with something, paint new turn signal bezels and install..... Look around the shelves of parts and see what I've forgotten about.... Take outside, spray with the hose and look for leaks...

Met with upholsterer again found some possible alternative perforated material. We both have ordered samples from other manufacturers that should arrive this week.

OK, Buford failed the water test miserably.. Pretty sure I can fix it. Good to know before a headliner goes in...

OTOH, I think he passed the outside viewing test with flying colors!! Even did justice to Eli's pic...
