Back on the alignment rack , I still had it crooked ! We took the ubolts loose as it now had some adjustment available. It took some effort but we got the total thrust angle at 0. We clamped it down tight I got it back home IMG_0242.JPG IMG_0251.JPG IMG_0250.JPG IMG_0246.JPG IMG_0247.JPG IMG_0244.JPG and welded it up solid. Springs pads, front hangers etc.
Got to spend some time on the front fender doing a little reinforcement. The front end tilts and I am just sorting it out as I go. So far so good.

We had a warm day Saturday. I removed the hood, disassembled it, and beat on the left side to get the hinge and inner edge as close to straight again as I could. Replaced the center strip with new I&I repro. Reinstalled the hood and messed with it to get it to fit better. It’s not perfect, but a lot better than it was. Going any further will need paint, so it’s going to have to be good enough.

Working slow on clean up of a replacement engine for my 28A,I blow up the Ford Y-block,just before Christmas 2021.
I have a few old Y's as parts piles, and one looked better then the others. So pulled it down, some good some bad,but at least on the good side; The cly walls an pistons look OK an crank is std/std and I can clean it up.
On the bad,oil feed to cam n rockers was total blockage,so cam, lifters an rocker are junk.
I started making another home made cam bearing tool{ for Y-block cam bearings, out an in.},I guess I lost the one I made many years ago! Lots more cleaning to do!

That tells me the front mounting point is too low perhaps.

Man it was warm here Friday and Saturday both, and was wet enough last week the salt is gone, so I got a first spring ride in. It was glorious.

I drove my car out of the shop so I could move another car out and onto the lift. I should have driven it a little Saturday when the weather was great, but didn't make it out of the yard trying to get other stuff done in the shop. I need to go drive it to keep myself motivated to swap the engine and transmission soon since I have to jump from 1st to 3rd gear since 2nd is slipping so bad it won't pull... :(

I pulled the 4 speed out of the 40 Pontiac for a freshen up. I have abused it for way to many years! FABB1BADA1.jpg

The front doghouse sheet metal is fixed in place, hard bolted to the frame. The gap between the inside edge of the hood doesn’t quite follow the form of the center strip. Changing that takes me in to paint.

Working on the tilt front, adding the outer fenders added some weight which is more of a concern when open than closed. So I went back and doubled up the angle iron at the mounting point where the weight is hanging when open. I used a bolt and some washers to make a striker for the bottom of the fender to latch over and that will keep the fender tight against the body.
The passenger side is getting a little patch put in where the striker goes.
    So far so good ! IMG_0253.JPG IMG_0260.JPG IMG_0267.JPG IMG_0257.JPG IMG_0256.JPG IMG_0258.JPG

Update from post 2789. Determined the oil problem was valve stem seals. Original style umbrellas were removed, guide bosses were machined by me with a friends cutting tool and viton seals installed. Valves did not need grinding IMO after lapping them and carbon removed. Nice to see new seats were installed by the previous rebuild. I did do a little blending on the intakes.
Changed the rings on the replacement piston I did 2 yrs ago but may not have been a problem. Other than carbon build up on all the pistons everything actually looks good for 10,000 miles in 10 years of city driving.
Working under the car with the pan and external oil pump is a real pain for my age let alone lifting those cast iron heads over the fenders. Found a guy online selling an ARP head bolt set pretty reasonable so I stepped for them. A little cleanup and paint helps me feel good.
I hope this is the last time. A8165E70-B133-44FB-8399-D631490C423E.jpeg 3ACA45BC-C82D-4F0C-A32F-FA292FECDD09.jpeg

Finished it today. Started right up. Fixed a few items not done before and cleaned a lot. Time will tell. Almost changed to a Blue Thunder dual plane intake and Summit carb but they will stay in the boxes a little longer. Yesterday and today, I added a couple of normal coats of clear to the passenger side roof just to see how well the metal flake is going to cover. A total of 4 quick coats produced this. You can still see the roughness but by and large, I’m amazed at how well the stuff covers 017D19CD-E46B-4886-9829-EA6897F17516.jpeg

Yeah that looks way better with clear. I'm not sure you even need to do bodywork with flake that thick. I pulled mine out and hosed the dust off today. It must be in the 80's it's pretty nice.

luckily, this car is straight as an arrow which was the only reason I thought about doing this to begin with

The first picture was like "wait what" but the clear made a huge difference. I've never seen anyone flake a car so don't mind me.

Different ways to do flake. It can be in the color coat itself. It can be applied on top of the color coat and then covered with clear. Or some guys put the flake in the clear. Each way will have different results. hrm2k's is a really heavy flake, I dig it.

once I get the flake buried to the point of a 600 grit finish flat, then comes all the other stuff. The metal flake is the base color. There will be others , lots

Checked AC line for leak, found it but could not tighten to fix. So have to remove line section and replace o rings in them expensive Aeroquip hose ends or have a plain hose made up. I wasn't happy putting the Aeroquip hose ends together, I couldn't see how they could seal. 26 years I guess I should not complain.:)

The dry flaking process is over. Time for lots of clear. There are a few places where it looks like a problem with coverage. Look at the places from another angle and they are gone 959E1E91-8DAD-4BA5-B3D7-913FC6415937.jpeg 661646E0-DC3A-4ACC-BDBB-B696559DE7A4.jpeg

Went to a cruise night with 90+ cars. About full when I got there. No funny noises or heat problems on the 80+ degrees in stop and go. Large crowd of lookie loos and families on Main Street as the night went on. FC4A8DD0-15C0-4442-B38F-2F18AEFB8854.jpeg
