It's been 15 more yrs since I scored an "opened complete" old Monogram Lemon Crate kit. Every other year I'd take it out case to admire Monogram quality... Finally this winter I decided how to built it. I ground off the louvers from the hood and tailgate, cut front & rear suspension to pieces to build it all over to original truck stance. I've been casting original 1940 V8 parts using Revell standard coupe engine as patterns, thus I rejected the chrome engine of the Lemon Crate and replaced it by original factory spec parts. Painting was the most fun part as it usually is. Red/brown primer, some crushed salt on and matt light green top coat... After completing the weathering the shiny nice DeLuxe bumper and grille looked out of place here, thus I made battered ones by resin cast and scratch styrene. Toolbox and some junk on the bed, it is almost there as I pictured it...
Beautiful job @tinsled. While we’re on the subject of old trucks, my absolute favorite is the ‘58 to ‘60 F-100 (quad headlight). A close second is the ‘57 (dual headlight). I really like my scale of choice, being 1:12, but that does limit me somewhat. I would kill for a 1:12 scale F-100 from ‘57 to ‘60, but I’ve never seen one. I could even make a 1:12 vacuum formed body work, but again, no dice. If anyone has a suggestion (other than changing scales), I’d love to hear it. Maybe someone out there is doing a 3D printed version? Any leads would be very much appreciated. Thanks Guys, David
A bit more progress to report... Yesterday, I got the Army Surplus "Canvas" covered seats completed, along with a matching upholstered edge at the sides of the tub. No modeling today, as the weather was nice enough to move ahead on my 1/12 scale (gauge 1) garden railway layout. My plan for (1/12 scale) world domination is coming together! Happy Sunday Modeling! David
A recent trip to wally world and right there in the middle isle near the toy section is a display of models of various ages and genres for sale and not for out of sight prices. Miracles can happen. The pictures are of the display on all for sides.
^^^^^Yeah..........they got me yesterday. I got a Ramchargers FED for $14 and a '65 Bonneville for $19. With all the hobby shops and ebay selling everything for $30+, I swore I'd never buy a new model again. Welcome surprise. When our Wallys got them back they were all $25-30, nice to see someone is coming back to reality.
They've got a 40% coupon all the time too for when they don't have the 40% sale, but then I have to go through all the BS to make it $18 instead of them just being $18 all the time. I'm just turning into a cranky old guy I guess.
I was excited about that Moebius '65 Nova gasser kit, but not because I have any interest in Nova's...but it makes a great parts kit!
