Those brackets are just plain beautiful. You are going to have a lot of fun driving this car.

  3. what condition is your hood and fenders on your 57? any patching needed, and if so, how would you keep the "old" look like the rest of the car has?

Apologies..I just had been too busy to make any updates, family and work are always first.... but pushing on areas that would seem too trivial to post about....
The fenders, inner fenders, front valance are all in great shape.. and match the car.
No work is needed on these fenders(which is totally amazing for anything 57 Ford!)
I have yet to scrub and clean, then paint the inside of the fenders.... already did that to the inners and cleaned up the valance...
In any spare time I have had... been mocking up the Alternator... needs some tweaks. but it will work.

Amazing those fenders survived 65 years without rust or a fender bender. Good Stuff!

Piecing together my grill and such in spare time as well.

    Thanks all!

  7. Its funny how my bumper filler panel is in perfect condition, but the panel inbetween the headlight bezels is decently rusty

I'm not sure if it's original or not but my bumper filler panel had a real thick coating of some kind of undercoat that looks like it applied with a broom. It seems like it was put on there to stiffen up or make the panel more rigid.

I guess I forgot to mention as well....
Got my gauge layout done...So I had my talented friend Rob carve out one of the better 57 Gauge inserts.. to accept the awesome gauges I received from @Speed~On ..I am just waiting on the last 2 to arrive....(I used some gauges I had for mock up)
So, made up the panels and I will engine turn them shortly.... experiments have taken place....
I really dig this type of work....
As I have mentioned.. much of this stuff could never be attained with the wonderful help of good friends.
I had a 57 Meteor glove box door..... and I just love the key logo/art.... these I think are hard to find.. so the Lonesome Texan will have a little Canuck in her.(.... I can't believe I just said that!)

The dash and gauges are sweet !!!! Impressive

  12. I'm lucky my '59 has very minimal damage to the body. I found a crease in one rear quarter the panel behind the door that had been pulled and filled with bondo... I'm not touching it. Every drain hole in the lower fenders and rockers are clear and open.

I fixed the front of the hood front inner structure with fiberglass cloth after I acid dipped the rust out of it. All the ragged stuff I used a cutoff wheel to remove it. It came out nice.

The back of my front bumper and filler panel were rusty. I wire wheeled them to bare clean metal, gave them a good lacquer thinner wash and a coat of POR15 on the back side of the filler.

The money side of filler panel I painted with the correct Argent Sliver spray paint. Made by VHT for wheels. I did the same with the back of the bumper. Better than factory.

None of it is too trivial. How we do stuff differs. No matter what the project is we may learn a easier/better way to do something by watching each other.
The fab and execution of a lot of the details on this car are so cool.
    Keep on keeping on.

  14. Will you be using a solid filler plate for the speaker grate? Or just reinstallig the grate as is?

    A small trivial move forward.....
got the Alt bracket all lined up and adjusted ...found a 42.5 belt and had to change the top pulley.
A much larger one from the stash.
the bracket is a neat piece from a guy named Larry who owns.....
    https://carcrap.net
Larry makes stuff for Fords.. real nice guy..... and since my block is an older FE engine.... and was a generator engine, the mounting boss was at the side of the block.. not the front.
all ended well and moving forward.
Finished all the fuel lines and now running the brake lines.
I made the last of my orders and awaiting the final parts to complete.... the Starter, Wildwood master and the PVC unit.
Anxious to get into the wiring......

That is one beautiful alternator bracket.
However, the FE engine with the Y block color is not fooling me. It's still an FE.

Honestly now....... Jeff do you really really think that you could drive that 57 Ford with the nice patina to a car cruise and open the hood with that big disguised FE and pass it off as a Y block?

    Another nice surprise today

I have mentioned @Speed~On several times and his amazing knowledge and help on getting the proper gauges for this application.... well.. the remainder of the Gauges came and I am more than overjoyed!
TJ is one heck of a guy and I enjoy supporting Hambers.
He was patient with me and is a gentleman.
If your looking for proper SW gauges. he is your man

    I am very stoked.

Thank you for the incredibly kind words, Jeff! You are such a gentleman. It has been a pleasure to work with on the gauges, thank you for the call. It was great to speak. with you. Your project is looking awesome and you're making incredible progress. It's really coming together nicely and I've always been a fan of 57 Fords, they look so tough.

I've always been a huge fan of your incredible art work. I have numerous pieces in my house and garage. After we spoke on the phone I said to my son, "I was just talking to the guy that painted that piece of art on your bedroom wall". His jaw hit the floor...it was pretty funny.

Keep rockin on the '57, you're sooo close!!! And the HAMB world wants to see it run!!

hahahahaha… that is funny Dan… but there was a time I was terrified of wiring… but when I did my other 57… ( and asking a lot of questions)… I found it rather enjoyable!
    Ha!

  29. the only thing thats annoying about wiring is diagnosing 65 year old wiring!
