Sharing a couple images from 49th edition of the Roadster Show in Idaho's capitol city of Boise over the March 13, 2022, weekend.
Dang I didn't know it was last weekend. I've always missed it because Portland was always the same weekend and Cabbage pass isn't always very friendly this time of year. Now that my son is moving to Wendell I might just make a road trip to Wendell with a stop in Boise for the show. They always seem to have some great cars there as your photos show.
I love Idaho. Slowly the entire state of Washington is moving there. I need to get over there next year for this one. Thanks for the pics @W Scott
loudbang, took lazy man's approach with camera phone. After Eric Geisert told me he was all in with phone approach for online I joined him on the dark side and left Nikon gear in park. Also nice having USRI at our show this yr.
The phones these days are pretty darn good for amateurs or those of us who enjoy getting a more high end look...great job... @W Scott...
Really enjoyed the show!! Definitely a good time!! Lots of new interesting new builds, and always nice catching up with old friends!!
I was hoping the Hirohata Merc would stop at Chicago World of Wheels last weekend on the way home from Autorama. Thanks for the photos.
Yes, he had his hands in a number of superb builds including the Mark Bell '62 F-100 that won the Goldmark award. His '55 daily driver in the parking is sweet too.
Hello, Nice shots of the Boise show. Wow, so that is where my brother's first car, the 1951 Oldsmobile two door sedan went after he sold it to a friend in late 1957! The friend recently told me that he lost track of who or where the Lime Green 1951 Olds ended up after he sold it many years later. He is 81 now. That 1951 Oldsmobile two door sedan had all of stuff that my brother had put on his 51 Olds at one time or another, including the yellow color. The complete package shown in the car show photo was exactly what the style was for those big old sedans from the early-mid 50s. The long side, under the door, lakes pipes were the thing to have, hooked up was preferrable, but it was not always so for most. My brother had the local muffler guy redo a down motor exhaust pipe with cut outs, but had them connected to the under the door, lakes pipes. The sound was not as good as the direct down tube and open cap. The long pipe made it sound kind of funny. But, the sad thing was, as cool as they looked, they were the first things that hit anything like a large bump in the road(s). The drive-in theaters were always relegated to the end spot in a row or the flat, back row area, with no humps of any kind. (pun intended) One of the last days prior to the final sale to our friend in late 1957 after it was painted a Lime Green for the new owner. So, after suffering from the cost of the chrome below the door lakes pipes, the coolness of it, they came off and were sold to a friend, whose old car was sitting higher off of the ground. Some different styling for everybody. Speaking of styling, those original three prong flipper hubcaps were the first set to go on the Pale Yellow 51 Oldsmobile. They stayed on the car until multiple flip offs and rolling down the street episodes made a change to screw in Moon Discs. A first of a kind for any of my brother’s friends’ cars. 51 Oldsmobile sedan late 1957 Jnaki Speaking of phone cameras, technology has come a long way in photo quality and intensity edits. Even the movie camera portion makes great films for the general public via high school projects. Our granddaughter is one of those teens that knows all about the ins and outs of the latest Iphone. Her short movies have garnered her an “A” in the photo classes. She even teaches my wife the latest info on her Iphone that the “grandmother” uses for her daily activities. Although, I have a similar, powerful Android Phone, I still use my digital camera for the best shots in motion and still photography. I am old school, although, if my digital camera is not in my jacket pocket, then the Android Phone Camera will suffice. The quality of the photos between the camera vs. the new phones is getting smaller in definition and color correctness contests. The MP race is still on versus each style and the digital camera, although it may not fit in any pants pocket, still gives better photos overall. IMHO.
That's cool to learn of your connection to the custom owned today by Boise collector Ralph Ross who I believe is in his 80's. Fun to see cars come back to life and make an appearance at events that are tied to the early days.
Hello, I did not mean for anyone to get the impression that my brother's first 1951 Oldsmobile sedan was the exact one in the photo from Boise. His first car just had all of the items associated with the late 5os times for So Cal. Colorful Yellow, then Lime Green paint, flipper hubcaps, long side pipes under the door and the lowered rake stance. The chrome and body were pretty good as in the 1956 time period, the car was relatively new. The Oldsmobile in the show has some great ideas and styling. It just brought back a lot of memories. Since the next owner who bought the Lime Green/Moon Disc Oldsmobile from my brother is now around 81-82 and does not know who or where that Lime Green Oldsmobile Sedan eventually wound up, it certainly would light up his day. For sure, the story would put a cover on our first Oldsmobile Sedan history book. So, thank you and hopefully, if it is the original car from Long Beach back in 1957, then it is all the more valuable to see the outcome and current status. Jnaki It is a million to one chance that its history is the one in the short film of the high school teenagers off for another round of cruising the local teen hangouts, a H.S. teen dance and drive-in restaurant parking lots. The old 40s house is still standing and has gone into a whole house makeover and expansion. Gone are the traces of our backyard garage and little hot rod speed shop parts area. It has expanded from our small house to almost 800 square feet of new construction according to the listings. Thanks for your post and information...
If any of you guys that had traditional hotrods and customs or drag cars in the show, and want to attend a great show fairly close by in Pendleton, Oregon than go to www.hotrod-a-rama.com
