I was told this is the place to find out what is all involved to pull off this swap in my '55 Merc. Montclair. Thanks for your help!!
Not an easy swap because of the 429-460's width also you need a front sump oil pan and custom headers to clear the steering box. Crites has a complete kit to do it but it is pricey stuff. The FE 352-427 bolts in like it's made for it and use you stock y-block mounts.
Thanks Jeff. I didn't buy the 429/C6 yet. I've always been partial to the 390, I'll be looking for one now, Thanks again!
A 351W and AOD would be a good swap too, you would love that overdrive on the highway. Here's a pictorial showing the mounts and part numbers. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/media/albums/289-302-351w-swap-mounts.41498/
Here is a 54 that has a big block in it with a few pictures to look at. Mark https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/d/hillsboro-1954-ford-victoria-door/7462958831.html
460 fits fine. The only downside I can see is you can't run power steering and any kind of overdrive can get expensive. Headers are available from Crites and FPA. Exhaust manifolds fit as well IIRC. Mounts from Crites. What you need to do is ask yourself what you want to do with this car. A 302/351 fits and is an easy swap, AOD are reasonable and there is a ton of parts available for the sbf. If you want a 460 then don't be afraid to do it.
Like the post, hate the picture for a number of reasons...... An old friend and I (that's saying something) were talking the other day about gas prices and Sarge said "as long as I can get all I want without sitting in line, I am good". A young guy that had been listening said "wait in line? were they busy?" When we responded with "gas shortage" he looked at us like we were from another country, it could be worse!
I remember well the days when you had to get gas every other day and the long lines to boot, and we had record inflation about 40 years ago, but you could get Billy Beer for 99 cents a Six pack. Remember also selling Cams & Intakes to increase gas mileage, History does repeat itself I guess.
