241 is still at the machine shop waiting custom 10:1 comp pistons, that's a spare poly block i have

A member told me to head over here and ask for help on this one. All the the rigging, boxes, doo dad's are coming off, but what I really need help with is a direction on how to flatten the nose of this truck. Model A grill? I don't know. I'm trying to get into this thing, but the bubble but nose is killing me. It was my dad's, so selling it and finding a truck I like better isn't an option. He wasn't totally tied up in it, but still...also a chop might look good? might look bad? ...I don't know. Anyone up for an ugly duckling challenge?

Not nice to mess with mother nature. Leave the nose alone. JMO

 

It's your truck...so your choices of course, but I like the grill. If it were mine, while removing the add ons, I would also remove the visor. I might look into incorporating the headlights into the fenders so they don't look like an after thought, maybe 37-39 Ford style? Add some nice wheels (maybe chrome reverse, Torque thrust or Halibrand Sprints?) and enjoy it as a shop truck hauler. And as time went on, I also might consider a mild haircut to reduce the height of the side glass a bit...maybe 2 or 3 inches.

 

I kinda like it the way it is mostly. But Here are a couple minor color changes you could make easily.

OK just playing around and did a redo of the one I did for you on your other thread. It has a nose job and 39 Chevy headlights with a chopped top with removed visor and exhaust stacks. Maybe a bit over the top but I bet it would be a real head turner...Oh and this time I fixed your broken gutter

 

I wonder what the truck would look like with 39 Plymouth headlights?

 

Nice nose job. I was thinking the same basic principle of just taking a bit off the front, maybe a slight lean. We must be running on the same frequency because our minds think very alike.

 

NICE! LOL, I'm sending that to my wife and telling her I fixed it. Gaurntee she won't notice the different truck, but will definitely see the gutter.

You might check on the lean-to, maybe it's the ladder.

Hello,

If the truck is running great and has no problems, is part of your dad's history, then leave it alone. The accessory lights on top and side aren't part of the original Dodge concept, so they need to come off. The winch in the back is up to you as to originality or design. Part of a car museum? Then leave it in place. Not part of a car museum, the take it off.

I chopped the top in different sizes. Chopping the top, shortening the bed and adjusting the proportions each time. The stock cab top is designed to the original, proportional design from the factory. Each time I took off some height, that changed the proportion and make it look like Paul Bunyan stepped on the top.

To keep the proportion, a section would need to come out. Then when a section came out, then the body looks more like Paul Bunyan and his big Ox, both stepped on the whole truck. Chopping and sectioning is not a good look for this truck.

If you are open to suggestions, take off all accessories, give it a good mechanical once over and replace all parts to make it a safe and fun truck to drive. The nose and front end is classy and gives it a different look of a cool hot rod truck. If you want to put on a Model A grille, go buy a Model A truck. Don’t mess up such a classy front end.

A few choice replacements, some clean up and new tires/wheel combo may brighten your day and make your dad’s truck something to sparkle. Even a nice color paint would help out. Primer paint is a taste that needs some thought or is a preview of the finishing paint to come.

Here is a photo of a similar Dodge Truck. The color, style and proportions are all very classy.

I was looking back at some of the earlier posts and I saw yours and realized that no one had done it so here is something to take a look as...I did one with patina and one with a paint job just for comparison.

 

If you really want to change the front, just smooth off the barbs and mold everything in. Work with the existing truck lines for a smooth custom look. I deleted the headlight pods and moved the lights behind the grille. You could also opt for '39 Plymouth "TV" lights and bezels or even 1942 DeSoto hideaways units, just to keep in the Mopar family.

 

Not a real museum truck, and the tow rig is Mach. The gears are car parts. Flywheel, and a starter, etc. I'll get her stripped and sanded. Get the body work done, do the mechanical and rewire. That will take long enough to really get a good idea on direction. Most of you all really like the front end, so that leads me to believe I'm the one who's got the bad taste. Easy enough for me, I'll just leave her alone. I'm dead set on a red ram. That has to happen. Maybe I'll take the hood sides off and run lake headers and see how that looks. That very well might scratch the itch. Can always pop them off is it's dumb.

Oh boy, you'll have a witch hunt for him if you put the headlights behind the grill like that, I had an old thread showing how many narrow minded opinionated people there are here when I was going to do that.
