I have been having to replace gauges in my flathead v8 powered 27 rpu often, mostly the oil pressure gauge fails, even the NOS S.W packed up.

I have some preewar japanese gauges that are very high quality, they dont look Asian at all but the oil/fuel pressure gauge is giving off 02.00 usv/h according to my raidation detector.

Or would it be no worse to wearing an old rolex watch?

radium isnt awesome, are the gauges fully sealed? I hear any dust inside will be worse to you than the radiation.

I think its pretty well sealed, I have smashed up a few old clocks with hammers in my younger days

  5. They might make ya sterile if mounted directly under the steering column. If you're young enough that it matters!

Putting things in perspective is usually good. I made a quick search and the first page says that 5 µSv/h is what you get when flying at 12km (~7 mile) altitude. Commercial jets seem to cruise at/just under that altitude, and there's plenty of people flying for a living.

I wouldn't worry about that gauge, unless you intend to wear it for a necklace 24/7 or use it for cooking.

I'm with you. I have gone to the Trinity test site in New Mexico where the first atomic bomb test took place.
They show you that there are still very low levels of radiation present, but not harmful. They also demonstrate
that when they held a Geiger counter up to a banana, it gave off a reading on the meter.

Wondering what is causing your oil gauge to fail so often.

If you are worried about the radiation coming off that gauge, I would suggest pushing all thoughts about the X-ray machine the dentists uses on you out of your head. Talk about pointing a loaded ray gun right at your brain.....

Do the hands and numbers glow in the dark after being exposed to a bright light? If so that is where the radiation is coming from. The luminous paint on the dials.

This is a concern I would have never even considered before today, but I feel all the more richer now that I know this.

First off, why do you have a radiation meter? And second, what made you want to check your old gauges for it?

I have about 4 different Geigercountries, i like finding finding radioactive stuff, friend had a crankshaft that had depleted uranium counterweights but they were actually less radioactive than the gravel on the driveway,

    "about" 4 different Radiation detectors?

Unless you ingest the gauge it won't hurt you. I'm sure you can find something to worry about these days if you pay attention.
