Some of the best car screwups lead to the best stories. One of my best friends, now departed, had his bitch'n red '56 F-100 backed into by a big Samoan driving a big Caddie, who then drove off. That evening my pal Richard saw the same red paint on the Caddie bumper. He confronted the neighbor, and they converged in the middle of the street. Richard and about 6 of the big Samoans. Now I have nothing against Samoans, they are big and fun loving, but they like to rough-house. As Richard is telling the guy that he's going to have to pay for the damage, the big guy is telling him, no way. All this time, Richard's wife, JoEllen, is standing in the doorway, calling Richard, Richard. He finally turns and yell's, dammit Honey, can't this wait?? She holds up his 44 mag revolver and asks, do you need your gun..... No yells Richard, I don't need the damn gun, I'll handle this without it !!! The big Samoan looks Richard in the eye and says, maybe we can work this out, and the rest is history..... Sometimes perception is the best weapon..... Richard Haig helped me with the Dream Truck, and taught me so much about life. I miss him dearly !!!

I live on a semi-rural, kind of narrow road with an S bend in it a few doors down from mine. Pulling out of the driveway with my 57 Ford and making my way down the street, a Super Duty was approaching in the opposite direction. He wasn't all the way over to his side, which forced me to move over to the very outer edge of the road on my side. Though my tires stayed on the pavement, the bumper and fender overhung, to where my neighbor has a small rock wall that goes all the way out to the street. I clipped the top of a large rock with the bottom of my bumper, which twisted the bumper up, and with it took out the front valence and blew the fender out, before ripping my lake pipe and fender skirt off. I was devastated.

It took me 17 years to make a claim against my collector policy. An adjuster came out to look at the car and wrote an estimate, that was woefully low and obviously inadequate. I was prepared to go to court over it, but took the car to a reputable collision shop, who called the adjuster back and explained how the estimate was flawed. They literally doubled the settlement. My premium increase has been negligible at best, and I don't regret making the claim.

Reminds me of that TV commercial where the insurance agent is dressed like a fly fisherman, with hip waders and a fly rod with a dollar bill on the end. He dangles the rod with the bill on the line over people and when they reach for it he jerks it back and says "oh you almost got it" and "you gotta move a little faster"

Ok, took the 34 to the body shop/painter yesterday. Damage really looks minimal after fully examining it but really particular about this car. Still getting it repaired but my body man can't even do the work for two months. Busy as all hell and his shop has been working overtime for two years. Wondering if he might consider mixing the custom paint on the car and allowing me to shoot it? Guys a real sensitive "artist" and hate to piss him off. Figure it can't hurt but....Thoughts?

An artist wants to paint on his own canvas, will he do the same prep for some one else?
You said you are particular about the car, I’d say let him at it, if he’s satisfied, you would be too;)

  6. Regarding the opening post......
Did you call it in as a hit-n-run? I think there are less points on your insurance if you can't catch the perp.

Yes it was a hit and run. Hit part was by me and the run part was the tears running down my face laughing hysterically at my stupidity
