Technical Machine Shop needed, to respline a tailshaft.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Robert J. Palmer, Apr 22, 2022.

  1. Posting for a friend-

Looking for a Machine shop who can respline a Cad/LaSalle tailshaft to early Ford spline.

The machine shop he was using no longer does it.

    Northeast preferred.

    Thank You,
    Robert J. Palmer

Maybe call Moser Engineering in Indiana? https://www.moserengineering.com/contact/

alchemy....I have always wondered if the young guy in the video you posted is a genius (like you:D), or if he has a mentor behind the curtain. He tackles some interesting stuff.

@Robert J. Palmer let me ask a friend of mine about it. He has a machine shop here locally.

  6. Do a search for "Gear Hobbing" in your area.

Robert, if you cannot locate a service you could call Bruce Carman as he has a guy locally that does his shafts. PM me if I can help.

I've cut splines to fix parts for old machinery repair before, same method as the video above but used a ball end mill to take out the center portion. I was able to do it in a Hardinge head, nothing else. The shaft fit in a 5C collet.

Could try B***; some place or another he posted about cutting splines for this conversion.

  11. Bruce Carman the oval track racer? I do know him well enough to talk to, but I didn't realize he did that kind of work.

Bruce has a machine shop that he uses that is in Bennington. And yes the oval track guy, now in his 80's and still building hot rods. My avatar pic is my recent project setting in his shop. His latest 31 is just to the right of my pic.

Did you find someone to shorten and re spline to early ford? I have some that need to be done but do not want to do them myself.
