When chains might be required carry a 2x6 or thicker block no longer than the distance between the cross chains. Place the chains on the ground with the block between the cross chains. Drive the vehicle onto the block. Now your chains are free and under the tire. The vehicle is on solid surface. You can actually do both sides at the same time, no jacks required. The chains can be adjusted and tightened without moving the vehicle again.

To safely stop on slippery roads, slightly keep power to the wheels to prevent them from locking up. Works best with four wheel drive. Not for quick stops obviously. Coordinating with brake and accelerator takes practice but it could save lives...It will also kill the engine on stick shift vehicles. Better the engine than lives.
