Just a few weeks before the pandemic begins, we did a road trip down here in Brazil, from Curitiba to Limeira, about 800 miles round trip. Lots of fun.
Not necessarily. It depends on how independent you are. Some are not comfortable traveling alone and then there are those who enjoy being on their own. Being on your own leaves you the option to change route, travel late, stop early or just stop anywhere along the way to see something of interest to you without consulting anyone. I travel solo a few thousand miles every year.
Nothing major recently- two years ago the car was barely run-in and decided to be devilishly awkward on a hot day in the middle of a bad bit of the city, after a wrong turn while headed to Mississippi for Cruisin' The Coast. Last year I was swt up ready to go and had that all stopped by a hurricane. Maybe this year? Maybe I'll rebuild the front suspension so it's a little nicer to drive on long trips...
I agree. I have mostly traveled solo over the years mainly just because I didn’t have friends who lived nearby that wanted to go the same places I was going. My trips were more related to just going some place than based on some event I was heading to. I have no issue traveling with others, but also enjoy the freedom of doing a trip alone. Now, my road trips may include up to three cars since both my boys drive their own. That will be the case tomorrow as we take our quick trip.
Road trips are my favourite thing in my Hotrods..... and driving alone..... really good for the soul.
There's a neat group out here that go out monthly for road trips in their hot rods. The trips take them to some beautiful places. I've yet to join them.
I'm from So. Calif. and was "tipped" to this thread by a friend in BC, who is a Road Tripping Compadre. Real road trips are not for the faint of heart or for posers. Beginning about 2010 we've been baked, drown and frozen, had breakdowns, been "ticketed" and lost. Never discouraged, seems every one was just "the best!" Great and lasting friendships have been the reward along with visiting the best that the U.S. and Canada have to offer. Over the last 10 years or so, our group of like minded characters has welcomed participants from Texas, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, and BC and Alberta Canada and,...we've visited those locales and events everywhere in between. It's Northwest Deuce Days July this year.
Yes, doing a road trip solo does allow for time to clear the mind however I wouldnt want to do solo all the time.
Here's a sample,...to the last Good-Guys, Lexington in 2019. 12 cars, also visited Indy 500 Museum and drove Rt 66
Current situation...quick 2-1/2 hour drive to the Stray Kat 500 with my sons. Trying to conserve gas...
Last Saturday to Denver to participate in the D.T.A. garage crawl. Down the drive. Left at 6:00 AM and got off the property at 7:00 had to replace manifold gaskets right off the bat...no more problems. A great trip in a banger even ran in the snow over Monument Where else can you see semaphore signals on the BNSF train track?
Photo Ops along the way Made it to mike and Amy's around 4:30- 5:00 PM Hopped up banger and overdrive helps
What kind of OD? I’ve only seen one flathead running a moderen OD and that was in a 40s full size Chrysler
The gaskets that failed were new from a Model A vendor I buy from regularly. I noticed the gasket material was different than had been provided in the past. (I was going to install a 4 into one header but...) so the stock exhaust was re-installed. I had done a test run the day before, no problem. As soon as I started the car, it blew out ! #1 and #4....the new gasket was brittle....I'm going to call the vendor next week, just didn't get there this week. I'm sure they will make it right and I've been considering having a gasket house die cut them for me. Maybe this is the push I needed. So, gasket failure not normally....this was different circumstance than normal This car has a Mitchell driveline OD. I have a Vicky with a T-5 (with OD) and enclosed driveline, a '29 Roadster with a TKO 5speed, both banger cars Hope this helps and don't want to steal the thread.....
It was in 04, do you live on P.E.I.?. We went through Charlottetown of course. I don't remember where we stayed some little mom and pop motel out in the country. It was funny going over the bridge I was looking for the toll booth then found that you pay to get off the island not on
Three Hot Rod Power Tour trips about 4500 miles each and one trip to Bonneville in my 62 Rambler SW in my avatar still in that paint.
Going on a 800+ mile road trip next week. Driving my Model A up to lynden, wa to her new home. If there is interest I will start a thread about it. Should take me about a week as I am in no big hurry. Unfortunately, I will have to go up via I5 most of the way. But, I will just get in the right lane and cruise. mike
Mike, big Model A following in Central Washington. Model A club out of Yakima, Wa does an annual summer road trip every year.
