Retired 1997. Started building my car, img220.jpg truck, tractor collection. 7 Goodguys S E Nationals awards with 4 cars. Changed the name from Dennis Frings Race Cars to Frings Chassis when I incorperated to protect my assets. 1981. An ex driver of mine Larry Detjens got killed. Not in my car. I changed Carolina Street Rods to Carolina Hot Rods when I realized I wasn't building street rods.

Building hot rods. I only ever had one man ask me to build him a hot rod. I built him this 28 R P U without the PU. It has the denoitces body. Added 2 " to the height at the top. GOODSGUYS PACKARD 010.JPG GOODSGUYS PACKARD 017.JPG GOODSGUYS PACKARD 018.JPG at the top. Blame me for the wheels. I let him pick out the car color. That's my black 27 with the 23 trunk. I have a blue 27 also. PS; With me being crazy about flachey wheels. Don't know why I painted the Halibrands.

Won " Best Bitchin' " award [2000 ] and Deuce Doin's 1st place [ 2013 ] at Goodguys S E Nationals with my 32. 109.5" img114.jpg wheelbase. Grille shell lowered 3/4" and does not lean forward at the top like other 32's.

The cute blonde is just a passer by. And an other cute NC gal. The hood is painted now. As if anyone cares. 2014-10-25 16.08.22.jpg

@Frames Larry Detjens was one of my favorite drivers. Didn't realize you had a connection to him.

Thank you guys very much. Chad Adams Hot Rods is going to finish my 29 and enter it in Grand National Roadster Show. He has Mikes Construction paying the bills. Hope he doesn't run out of money. 2022-07-27 10.38.40-3.jpg

I'd like to see interior shots of the 27, it looks channeled and the seating position is VERY low. Trying to figure how you pulled that off, thanks:)

Dennis Fring built many beautiful race cars and knows a lot about Halibrand parts and the history of roadster racing, you can see the influence in his cars. I used to visit him when I worked for DEI and he was always extremely nice. He needs to post a picture of the recreated Parnelli Jones driven supermodified he built, it's perfect.

Dennis is a hell of a nice guy and very few can match his accomplishments in race car and hot rod fabrication, I don't know why some on here feel they have to disrespect him and make derogatory comments on his posts.

I sent pictures of the # 97 to Parnelli. He called me. We talked a while and then he said "if I ever wanted to sell it he would be interested" I quoted a big number and he said " He already had 25 cars he didn't know what he was going to do with them when he passed on. 2012-05-14 11.07.14-24.jpg

the $ amount wouldn’t matter as the content is priceless ………:)
I quite enjoy that some bring the posts back to the top, as so often, (especially with time differences around the world), I miss them and they disappear.
By bringing them to the top, others are getting to enjoy them and maybe benefit.

Trent there is no denying that Dennis is a shameless self-promoter and to us veteran HAMBers his digital foorprint comes off as almost shady and somewhat disconnected from culturally acceptable social media discourse etiquette. (It reminds me of the way the late great Ray Erickson's HAMB discourse was received.) I would argue that this is primarily due to his advanced age. (same as Ray). But don't let all that get in the way of the fact that he is an outstandingly rich resource regarding racecar building and he builds sublimely beautiful hot rods particularly suited to the HAMB traditional aesthetic (notwithstanding certain wheel choices.)
And he is a straight-shooting good guy, as far as I can tell. One visit to his shop is all it takes to convince one of his hot rod bona fides.
And testimony from racing insiders like Steve Hmiel and Jay McDonald should be enough to quiet the naysaying, don't you think?

  29. I know ol'Frames is an somewhat odd duck...and most of us do have a few quirks also..
But, recently , I came across this interesting article about his race car fab skills..
Odd duck personality withstanding , his contribution to historic American race cars are solid.
Read the article , the cars are not HAMB approved , but good old American racecars standing tall deserve some amount of respect

I know very little about the gentleman, so just assumed that as he aged he wanted others to see some of his achievements, more like reminiscing………
But your comment, the part quoted above in this post certainly covers some others on here ( including those with there constant negativity )………
