Don't think I added my plate to this thread, but have a YOM plate from the California Board of Equalization. As many of you know if you want to register a pickup in many states you need to have a commercial license, as the vehicle needs to be registered as commercial in order to haul anything in the pickup bed. You can register as a car, but in theory you can be fined, I'm not sure if people have been charged for this. To complicate things, '45 and '46 only had a rear plate in CA and the folks at the DMV were insistent that there needs to be 2 plates, despite the form clearly stating there is only one plate in '45/'46, so I had to wait for them to send pictures to the head moron up in Sacramento to get this plate approved. The downside to a commercial license is that it costs about $200/year, I think this year it went up to $204. However, I pay just about as much for a 1998 Tacoma, so it's pretty much the base fee for a commercial licensed truck to haul anything in the pickup bed. This was about $160/year about 3 years ago, the DMV continues to charge more and more and our politicians steal the reg money to conveniently slip into their pockets...suffice to say that we pay higher reg fees to feed our politicians, just like we do for gas which is over $6/gallon...I digress...I don't seem to have a pic of it on the truck, I know I have a video, but no pic. My understanding, this plate was issued in 1946, the first year after the war ended, to the Board of Equalization for a Pneumatic Carrier...I think it could be for many types off uses, a trailer, a hauler, etc...but it's on my pee-cup now as a registered commercial truck. '46 used a '45 plate with a '46 year tag over the '45. There aren't a lot of '45/'46 commercial plates, and hate to admit I paid about $300 for this one, so it wasn't as if I found this on my truck when I bought it.
Thanks to @37hotrod for giving me the scoop on license plate frames for my Wisconsin Plate for my '47 Plymouth.
I had looked for a frame to fit my plate at one time, but those sellers are pretty proud of those old frames, even a Chiwan copy was about $80, or am I missing something? I think I'm gonna skip the frame, I have it mounted on the rear bracket and I was thinking to cut a piece of steel/stainless to back the entire plate to stiffen it. There's a couple tears, I thought about tig welding them, but the metal is kinda fragile in a couple areas. I could have got a much nicer one, but I like this number...it was much simpler. Good score for you! Your plate/frame look great!
@tr_rodder You’re welcome. The plate looks great. If you ever need the hookup on something weird or unusual… I probably have it here somewhere.
Just picked up a stack of Connecticut validation tabs at the auction. Figured out the missing corner on the ‘57 and ‘58 tabs are so they don’t cover up the bolt hole on the plate.
Ok, here’s a story for you. About 2 years ago, I was working outside on the farm and happened to look up at one of the exterior barn walls. At the very top of the wall, holding a hay door shut, someone had nailed this old license plate. Fast forward to today, and I had some guys working on the barn. They had rented a lift, so I asked them if they could pull the plate down while they were up there. Don’t know how long it has been up there, but it was on there the last time the barn got painted, because the backside is covered in red barn paint. First pics are from when I first noticed the plate on the barn. Third pic is fresh off the barn. Fourth pic is after a gentle cleaning. Last pic is the back of the plate covered in red paint.
As you are aware the 1930 -1933 South Carolina Iodine State license plates are rare and pricy, but if you are looking for a wall hanger there is a reproduction 1932 Iodine state tag available on ebay. HRP CLICK HERE:

Its only taken a few months for me to jump in here, and im not even bearing gifts! Id be late to my own funeral. I'll get my act together and post some pics over the coming weeks. I'm not sure how I became a plate nerd, but thanks to my great friends here, I was spoiled rotten. 37 and I became friends with hamer, Zapato. Thanks to Zapato, (rest in love brother) i have a 1913 Oregon license plate. He also sent me the first thing he louvered when hen got a louver press. It is a Texas truck plate. Before he passed, he sent other nice ones. Once we were cranking on the social group, I traded Kiwi licence plates with several Hamers. Now days, I've gone quite on collecting, but have some of my collection on the walls and door of my studio. The rest are in my storage container. I do have a new small shed to decorate, but that's not in my immediate plans. It will happen though.
I bought most of my Bicycle License plates as a kid 50 yrs ago . My father would take me to swap meets as a kid (8-9yrs old ) He had a much younger friend that would accompany him . (David) . My father would give me some change and would go with David. David would find or help me find the plates 20 or 30 cents at that time .Windshield washer bottles was another . I have over 100 different manufacturers of windshield washer solvent bottles .Although My friend David is now in his 70s and living a1000 miles away in Prince Edward Island , We are still friends ,and speak regularly, Poor old Pop's passed 6 years ago at 84 .. Here are a few bottles I have displayed
Depression era ICC plate, seen on many of the '30s long haulers. And a bunch of Wyoming stuff I got by accident before I collected plates.
I looked for my oldest plates out at my storage, but they were hiding. Here's a few old Kiwi licence plates I have in my studio. I can't remember off hand what years are what, but it's all here on the interwebs for anyone who cares enough. The symbols in between are also different between the years.
Can’t believe I forgot to share this one. Stopped at a garage sale on the way home from work about 2 months ago. This was my prize. Pre-war truck plate in amazing condition. Smaller than a standard license plate. The G weight rating indicates it was for a pretty big truck. Can’t be very many of these around.
Swapped for some different plates today. Got some cool plates, and a mystery. I have no idea what country the black & white European plate is from. My other UK plates are more of an acrylic material. This one is straight up plastic. No markings of any sort. Any help would be appreciated.
