I know traditionally that bellflowers are more common on a '56 Chevy as well as many other makes/models with a sweeping rear wheel opening. However, has anyone installed or seen them on a '55 Chevy. Curious so know how Id route the exhaust, etc with the symmetrical wheel well opening.

  3. Your 55 would look great with Bellflowers! Way to many bellybutton Tri 5s out there.

Thank you. Really trying to get that mid 60's vibe that I saw as a young child in Van Nuys.
And yes, tri 5's w/ Torq-Thrust wheels (or oversized billets) and LS swaps everywhere. Its like there is a mod check list you're supposed to go by these days. Haha! I will not wear the uniform....

That car nails the look that the "older" meaning early 20's with a full time job ran around here around 63/65.

To me the bellflower go more with the mild custom look of the one Guthrir Smith posted than the "I might have a 327 in it " look of your 55.

Nice car that takes me back to 1964 when the only guy with Cragers in s hool was the rich kd with the 57 hardtop.

That's probably because of its current stance. This is a photoshop I did of what it will look like when I finish the suspension and get the entire car repainted. It looks good in those pix, but what you cant see is that it was rear ended (sheet metal has been replaced) and every panel has a few minor issues. Also, I'm going to shave off the vertical paint separator trim pieces, fender emblems and antenna in the process. But basically this is what i will look like:

I unfortunately don't have any pics to share but I think that car would look great with them, I feel like the squared off rear wheel opening works better with the Bellflowers than the sweeping 56 or 57 opening would.

  8. Yep, I say go for it. It will look great and maybe even better with the squared off wheel openings.

Thanks. It seems to me that the rear portion of the sweeping wheel well allows you to tuck the pipe up and in at an angle, whereas mine would have to be ran under the body line itself. That's the dilemma I cant seem to wrap my head around.

  10. We were looking at putting them on my sons Edsel (which does have the sweeping wheel wells as you mention), but since the exhaust enters the bellflowers at a 90 degree angle typically, not so sure that it might not work better with the 55 wheel wells.

  11. Looks awefully close to the 55 my dad had in 64

I feel like I prefer them to come out below the bottom of the quarter, and not out through the end of the wheel opening, but that's maybe just my personal preference.

Notice how they are tucked under the fender? You will see some mounted farther outboard. They can get goofy looking farther out.

But nary a '55 with them.

But -- the back side does not come down as far as the center does, so I think it would look just great!

That's because Bellflower Blvd., Whittier Blvd. and Van Nuys Blvd isn't in your neck of the woods, but it was and still is in mine ;)

Amen brother! If I see another red and white, blue and white or green and white '55 or '56 with five spokes and that ugly ass hood bird, I may gag. And I'm a big fan of five spokes but give it a break.

Danchuk sure sell a lot of those ugly ass birds that guys took off and filled the holes years ago. Torque Thrusts are my favored wheel but not polished.
Stock appearing on a slight rake has its place along with level low with Bellflowers and lakes pipes.. I never get tired of either and any manufacturer.

  25. I agree.... they always look like an "add-on" to me, because they usually don't flow with the rest of the body lines.

Thanks for the photo-chop!....and straitening out my bumper bracket. Its on the "to-do" list. That was a result of the rear-ender it was in. Still a work in progress.
