Been wanting to post these for a while. Didn't have a scanner. Here we go. First two are from the famous S&S race team from Va. The Anglia is about to make a record holding run which was taken from him the next week because they discovered he removed his running boards. Car was painted shortly after. Black Willys is the Filthy Fourty. Cool Tommy Ivo pics. Most of these and the ones to come are from Cecil County Drag-O-Way in Cecil Co. Md. Between '61 and '63. Hope you guys enjoy 'em. More on the way.
Deadwood stage from 1320 Racing. Another pic of that in the black/white photo and the Pacers car. Pretty well known group of guys from Jersey.
Firstis the Jack Merkel Willys P'up. Next one is my favorite. The Tin Lizzie! Check out the channeled roadster in the back too.
This first one is CRAZY!!! I always wondered abot this car. Anyone know about it? My dad doesn't remember much about it. Was called the Mean Machine. Wonder how it ran if it even did. 40 Ford? Other pic is the Hartley's Fiat.
want to say it was wrecked.....maybe chuck (pro enfo)will know the story......i'll ask dave hales and see what he says.....brandon
This is my Dad and Uncle's car. Wish I had a pic after they had it lettered. Was called the Saint. They were big fans of the tv show at the time. Had a 301 with fuel injection, set back 10%, 4 speed, eventually a straight axle, flip nose and who knows what else. Ran E/gas.
That Pacers, from Long Island I believe, car was my favorite back then. It ran at Isand Dragway, NJ fairly often. I have similar pics of Tommy Ivo's car. He was at my clubs's show a few years ago and signed it for me. Pretty nice guy.
looks like a pretty good shot of Ed Roth's backside in the photo without the finger. number 5 car, right?( as in swamp rat V) someone tell me?
How do you get 317 cu. in., in 1963? Is that like a destroked 327? The red '55. I can't get the pic to work.
These Bantam coupe bodies on a rail were some of the best looking cars IMO. That's a Lyndwood chassis under this one.
Thanks for sharing, always great to see history... Lux Blue was correct on the Garlits rail, it is Swamp Rat V-B. Swamp Rat V-A won the 1963 Winternationals and according to Garlits was sold to Dodge. Swamp Rat V-B is the car pictured (because of the headers and the placement of the Champion decal). This rail was turned into Swamp Rat VI-A. In regard to the Mean Machine; it looks like it was photographed at the 1963 Drag-O-Rama Rod and Custom Auto Show that was held in Baltimore's Fifth Regiment Armory. That car is pictured in the March 29th, 1963 issue of Mid-Eastern Drag News. All the caption says is that it was a Chrysler powered 1940 Ford. No owners name is given. The first set of photos has the Black Willys "The Filthy Fourty". The owner was Charlie Hill from Columbia, PA and the was the "TOP DOG" at the end of the 1963 season in C/G.
WOW, how many "nips and tucks" did it take to make that digger body?? Thanks for the pictures, will have to post some of mine soon. JT
