Well Marty, I feel so guilty about sneaking a 55 gallon drum of methanol on and off the island when we took the sprint car to Victoria that I’ll bring you a sack of potatoes

Yeah, the ferries really don't like us transporting large quantities of flammable liquids (other than what's in the gas tank). I imagine it's the same with Washington State ferries.

And we're very protective of our orange groves up here, don't want any accidental introduction of agricultural pests.

Thanks much. Can’t wait to put some miles on her once I get my butt in gear and finish putting her back together. :p

Fruits and veggies and produce are an issue in a lot of places unless they are in a proper container or in the case of Apples or oranges have the sticker on them that shows that they came though a proper warehouse and aren't carrying any bugs rather than being home grown. They snooped my trunk coming back looking for what I might bring back from Canada but all that was in the cooler was a can of warm Irish Death from Ellensberg. I figure he was looking for Canadian Whiskey or Cuban Cigars from the Cigar store on Government street.

The customs guy at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal told us we could only take the methanol that was in the sprint cars tank. One of the guys told them we were going to run a hose from the barrel to the car then. The guy said technically that was legal. I don't know if he would have let us though. It was raining so hard and the weather reports didn't like it was going to let up , so we just turned around and went home.

Well due to several things including the expected birth of our first grandchild in the next few weeks I have decided that I am not going.
That said I am registered and have checked and can transfer said registration to someone who has a qualified vehicle for the event vehicle who can go but didn't get to register.
Criteria is, that you have to be able to go, the vehicle has to pass their criteria and you have to mail me my shirt.

Yes you should. I've been going to car shows since 1973 and this one is by far the best one I have ever attended.

I was told that there are 12 cars coming from Lethbridge. That is a long way to go just to see the local crowd.

Lethbridge is only 786 miles or 1265 clicks counting the ferry ride. I can say that the cars there on Sunday (the only actual organized show day) are from all over the US and Canada and quite possibly Oz or Europe. There were probably close to 100 cars from California. There were a couple of nice but not Hamb friendly mid 60's burbs from Alabama and Texas power parked on the street in front of the host hotel Thursday, Friday and Saturday and tucked away out of sight on Sunday. I'm thinking that they traveled with some 32s though. You saw a lot of "local" cars cruising around on Thursday, Friday and Saturday but not in the actual show on Sunday.

  13. I host a BBQ for a great group of guys (the CanAm Curmudgeons) that come up from down south for Deuce Days regularly. This group includes guys from SoCal, Arizona, Texas as well as Washington and Oregon. IMG_20190718_140044183_HDR.jpg IMG_20190718_140901059.jpg

It’s getting closer and closer! I’m a little disappointed that my car won’t be ready but I’ll make it next time! Now a little request if it’s not too weird... I’ve never had a ride in a Deuce or really many HAMB friendly rides so what I’m wondering if any of you guys would be willing to give me a ride for the sheer pleasure of it? Payment in beer?

  15. You came up and introduced yourself to me last time, so if you catch me again maybe we can go for a ride

If I can get my sedan roadworthy in time, I’ll give ya some seat time.
Just a little plumbing and wiring to go.
Unfortunately a death in the family occurred recently and my schedule got delayed. Car has been good therapy though, so gotta get back in the garage and get her done.

I posted it on the other thread but if someone was wanting to just go up and spend the day, You could ride the Victoria Clippper out of Seattle and get to Victoria at 10:30 AM and leave on the boat to come back at 5:00 PM The ticket is right at 165 prepaid round trip but you get off the boat right at the end of where the cars are parked for the show on Sunday. Spendy but outside of maybe a T shirt and food and drink that is your expense for the trip.
Last time I spent Thursday to Monday in Victoria and never pulled the stealth car out of the parking garage until it was time to leave on Monday. I probably walked 30 miles in that time frame but if a guy wanted to make the day of it that is one way to do it.
I thought about taking my boat up and parking it at the dock right in front of the show for a few days but it would cost more to run it from Anacortes to Victoria than riding the ferry would. Screenshot (188).png

I’ve done the one day trip many times. Early ferry a Tsawassen , transit from the ferry, and at the show by 10:30ish. Transit back to the ferry at the end of the day and then into the car at the parking lot and home....

    This year Thursday to Sunday!

My thought was taking the Victoria Clipper might be a way for someone from the US side of the PNW to go up for the day or even a couple of days if they can find a room close to the harbor for the show. That dock in front of the building with the columns is where the boat stops and it is across the street from the HQ hotel. Step off the boat and go up the ramp and you are in the big middle of the show. Victoria waterfront.jpg

Oh and US custom guys are strict too. I lost a box of Cuban Cigars that I bought while up skiing at Whistler a few years back. Damn good smokes. Probably ended up in the customs guy's humidor

They search for those on your boat too. The agent pretty well ransacked my trunk when I came back from Victoria at Anacortes. Going over it was more of "Ya got anything we need to know about? and wave you on. Some of my boat friends have had to stash their liquor supply when going north to Canada on the boats though.
That will show me to do a search to see what the Victoria Clipper costs and the schedule. On FB right now Screenshot (190).png

Can somebody set up a list of all those going in case someone would like to PM somebody for a meet up? HAMB handle, location, ride? I’d like to meet some more HAMBers and I think this would be a good way to do it..

If you happen to see an old Asian guy wearing a maroon T-shirt that says " Gary Klassen for Mayor", come and say hello.
