    Hello,

Nice photos of a recent event. From 2022 back into the past for some original photos of a huge drag race strictly for Gas Coupes and Sedans at Lion’s Dragstrip in 1964.

The names were from the top Gas Coupes and Sedans across the USA. It was an exciting event for this class. Some of the early racers now had their 1964 versions ready for the competition. It was a great event and on the HAMB, it is covered from my early films.

I was there to cover my friend’s debut in his finished B/Gas 1940 Willys Coupe. So, it was finally ready for all to see and hear. Atts Ono’s debut drew a crowd, as it was a well-designed and build, “show worthy” Willys Coupe.

Here some photos from the "Silver Dollar" A/GS prior to all of the sponsorship logos.

Some may identify the early trend of having the front end raised. Some had them due to the fiberglass usage, while others still stuck to the steel original front end. The top racers still had their normal stance and the power of the motor was what raised the front end, while they went down the dragstrip.

This was one of the first in this style of stance.

The Gas Coupe/Sedan stance came in all different levels.

I believe the idea behind the higher stance was to load the suspension quicker to put more downward pressure on the rear tires to help traction coming out of the hole. I think that this pickup had one of the higher stances and beat some big name cars sometimes. Also it had a chopped top.

    Hello,
I see that the @enloe photo look is similar, but it was named "Silver Bullet..." It was a built with ideas that were taken from the original Silver Dollar A/Gas Supercharged Silver Willys Truck from the 1964 season, by Mike Bamber.

The high front end was a fad. It did not do much to help, so, the big name teams just showed their power to raise the front end during the trial runs and eliminations. SWC, BJM, Mallicoat Bros, etc, did not have the "nose in the air" look sitting in the pits or on a trailer.
