Man, you guys make me feel young! Those phones are almost prehistoric! I do remember pay phones however, you know the kind in the booth with the bifold doors...

Doug, I wanted to mount it by the entry door, but I couldn't bring myself to take down this one, it's been in that same spot for almost 50 years. You and I have talked on it many times, and it never fails to work. IMG_9435.JPG

That's like the one we had on the wall in the kitchen at home when I was a kid, except the cord was about a 20 footer, so us kids could try to get some privacy....

Johnny, I am not familiar with Pixley, I am new here, just short of 50 years ! I hope I can make Toutle with the RPU, lots of details yet, and I have been helping friends and family, and that's more important. This morning, I considered, putting the Injected Chevy in the #10 Track Roadster, it should run in the 5's ! It would look like this. 045_45.JPG

Put the Chevy in #10 & ship it east to me. Collecting parts for another build here after selling off various collections never finished.. Enjoy to much travel to get one done. & still have 2 half done.

That's the same one Marty, was in a cabinet for years and got tired of moving it, I put it on my garage sale table and the guy picks it up and hands me the money without quibbling.
I don't recall how much I was asking but apparently not enough.
How did you get yours to ring in?

Doug, when they finally switched me from rotary to touch tone, all the phones work. When the power goes out, which it always does in Winter, the dial phones never fail to work.

A couple of weeks ago, I bent up a piece of 1-1/4" .120 wall tube to serve as a mid-mount off the bellhousing. Using some tri-5 mounts , I built the lower brackets and tack welded it in place. I finished the frame mounts today, using some pre-made bungs I had leftover. The 5/8" bolts might be a little overkill, but I will be using socket head capscrews, so it should look OK. The best thing about old phones is the kids don't know how to use them!

Mike, I had some 12-13 year old kids here a while back, they were intrigued with my dial wall phone, so I had them call their Mother, that was standing close by. It was a hoot just to watch them !

"Hooterville is a fictional agricultural community that is the setting for the American situation comedies Petticoat Junction (1963–70) and Green Acres ..." Your mention of Hooterville reminded me two things, Pixley, which is another small town mentioned on Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and the Beverly Hillbillies. Unlike Hooterville Pixley CA is a real town in farm country. Also reminded me of my mom who called every little town a Hooterville. Boy that track roadster would be a fun ride with that injected Chevy! My buddy Dave and I are registered for Toutle and really looking forward to it. Willys is in need of attention, need to get my rear in gear! Yep, friends and family much more important. That phone with your "contact list" and notes jotted down is great! My shop, same.

Hmmmm. What did I do with the old rotary dial Bill Ireland gave me to try and figure out how to take apart and put back together. I know it’s around here somewhere.

I have been tackling the firewall, and it has been a little bit of a struggle, due to the fuel tank/upper cowl being removable, and the hanging pedals. Also the very tall slot required to take the mag in and out. The lower half is roughed in, and once I am happy with it, it will get scribed on the inside and trimmed for a flush fit. I have made the decision to make a removable faceplate out of aluminum to cover the large opening over the mag. The tach drive cable will route through the old gas filler cap, loop around and connect to the the mag drive connection on the pass side. 23. That's the way the original builder of my current RPU did it Marty. Good idea, but I would not have chromed it. Car was originally built in the early 70's when things like that were done. Thought about painting it but the chrome is still pristine so I left it.

I went to a friends wedding on Sat, when I pulled in the church parking lot, the first thing I saw was the X-51, built by Ron Courtney in '56. I have followed it, and knew some of the owners through the years. The current caretakers, the Hardison family, friends of mine for over 50 years, drive it an enjoy it. When we caravanned to the reception, it was great to see it on the road. Rod, @madwagon56 surprised me with a real keepsake, one of the California plates, when Bob Page owned it. He knew I was fond of the car, and had worked on it when John Corno owned it the second time in the 80's. The last couple of shots were taken in the mid-80's when it was here. Marty, love it how easy you make fab work look. Looks like your mock up mag passed through Spud Miller's place at some point. And I have to say that you have the largest group of really cool friends of anyone. Hope you get to the strip with this soon. It's some of the best medicine to keep you feeling young!

Thanks Jim, I do enjoy the fabricating. Spud Miller is the go to guy, for Injectors and Magnetos, although he is about an hour and a half for me, I have never met him in person. He flowed a couple of -0 pumps for me, for this car and we will be making the decision to run gas or alcohol. As far as the friends go, they are second only to my family, and I have truly been blessed with both. This hobby would be nothing without the great people involved, and are as important as building and playing with the machines we love. I have a buddy coming from Australia to spend a month with me, and we will be going to Speedweek, along with taking in some other fun events. Back to the fab work, I am nearly done with the firewall, just a little welding left, and making a cover for the top half of the slot . Then it's on to the throttle linkage, which will be a challenge. IMG_9509.JPG IMG_9510.JPG
