    Hello,

We enjoyed anything that looked cool and fast. The sound on this orange GMC powered FED was unusual to say the least.

Before our time, research presented several orange and black painted hot rod/drag racing cars that were a part of the Ike Iacono racing team.

The powerplant was usually a GMC 6 cylinder in the roadster and coupe. They were all orange and black paint with the numeral 99 as the specific number. But, each drag strip had their own window numbering system to keep track of the racers in the different classes.

Dale Lambrose ran this roadster (99 JR ) as a teammate to Frank "Ike" Iacono's '34 Ford Coupe (99), with both running GMC sixes on fuel.

We were fortunate to see the original Ike Iacono GMC powered FED back in the 1959-60 era at Lion’s Dragstrip. It had the most unusual sound.

Armstrong and Richter, would become the "Nesbitt Orange Special." Bob Armstrong drove, Maurice Richter Chrysler. Might have been the first major sponsor for a dragster. Photo taken at Colton, where it appeared regularly.

Rackemann, Baney, and O'Brien Cadillac powered roadster at Saugus. Sponsored by Yeakel Cadillac, the car ran two different Cadillac engines, one owned by Baney and one by famous customizer Nick Matranga.

Goodyear and Serpia, "Pacific Auto Body Special," 296" flathead. It was once owned by Harry Duncan, who ran it with both a 364" Chrysler and a blown Ardun. Here is the Ardun version, photo from Harry's grandson: duncan wise.jpg
