Lots of high end cars from the old days used stainless
Looks so rich on a black car/ pickup
Love how they figured out how to line the hood openings on the Valley Customs/ Glen Hooker car 6217D238-AC76-4851-ABAE-29C58216380A.png 4B7D0872-3FB3-4D06-BF6B-060F4FCA4D39.png

  2. Bullheaded Billy, I mean @Bandit Billy ..... IF you use REAL stainless welt, you won't have any better metal-to-metal protection than you will without it (under the hood, that is), and the curve (to match the fender) will be wavy. Then you have the dilemma of where to stop it, at the top of the grille or along the grille/fender joint. If you use vinyl wrapped stainless, you'll still have to fuss with getting it to lay flat throughout the curve.
Quit waffling..... decide on black, and get back to buffing!

I'd do black. Or chrome. Or, wait, I can't decide... I used chrome stuff years ago on my '41 Chrysler (dark blue) and the stuff didn't bend without kinking, even in a gentle radius at the tops of the fenders. Is there a vinyl alternative, like the "chrome" stick on moldings in a roll?

Don’t know what you’re talking about, but stainless fender welting has a vinyl strip to insulate between panels , that’s what it was designed for, while it may be extra work to install it looks great when done correctly D2B9F7AD-EC90-40F9-A310-8A7BEDFDA227.jpeg

  6. Of all the things on a car, welting is not a feature.

I was trying to come up with something smart ass to say but I came up blank so you may be correct.

  8. I guess the Valley Customs guys didn't get the memo they used stainless welting a lot.

  9. Despite numerous good looking examples above, I don't really understand using welting in any color other than black.
Is welting the feature of your rod that you want viewer's eyes attracted toward, because it is flashy or shiny?

Its not the shiny aspect but that doesn't hurt:cool:
I think it would look nicer longer. If you got wax on a black vinyl top or trim you know what I'm on about.
Just like Mr. Wizzard said above, it's about the details.

  12. Have you considered fluro orange?

Stands out, AND it's a safety feature. Win/win.

  13. Black, would be my choice.
I agree with others who stated fender welting shouldn't be a feature.
Chrome to me is reminiscent of chrome door edge guard.
Your truck has enough cool built into it, without adding (in my opinion) attention via chrome outlines.

Considering the 'Flash' on the Valley Customs sectioned black '40 convert, I'd have to lean toward black.
Reasoning for this is that although flawless in black... Bandit Billy's is still A TRUCK!
Conversely, THIS truck probably would be taken as a 'truck version' of the Valley Custom '40!
