Can someone please school me on head-mounting (offset) a powergen on a flathead. 8ba running 59a heads and a 3x2 setup, so I have to offset on the head and am using a NOS Fenton head mount bracket.

My question is... for side mounting, is it best to run the strap style or can I run the front mount?

Any help would be great - thanks guys!

I mounted mine off the head with a Navarro bracket. I made risers out of rocker stands so the head could remain torqued down even with the bracket removed plus they gave me more room for the water necks on these 8BA heads.

I cant answer your question about the front mount. I can tell you that hood sides and this mount do not get along.

Thanks @Bandit Billy I appreciate it!
Yeah I'll have to look at some dimensional drawings to see if the front mount vs. strap mount is going to be much different.

Here's a pic of a common left hand one that can be found. It will mount 90 degrees to the head with spacers like Bandit Billy did. Unfortunately, you can not run a hood. There is a older similar style that isn't manufactured anymore but pops up from time to time that has a twist in it. That one you can close the hood with even with the spacers. This is the one with the twist that will allow the hood to close. It's hard to tell from the picture, but where the gen mounts it's more upright then 90 degrees to the head.

Here's a couple other types, but again you can't close the hood. The first one is missing one of the straps. 0902151407a.jpg

My not closing the hood comment would apply to Model A's or 32's. The first bracket on the green tarp may work with other years that have more room under the hood.

On my 34 that power gen hangs out a good 3-4”. I like no hood sides on my car and I figure it cools better hanging out there in the breeze

@Inthemitten , what year car are we talking about.? Narrow 28 to 32? Our 37 is wider and taller so the head mount generator is below the inner fender, just.

I agree no hood, fenders or top, but I want the option to install them if need be.

Thanks everyone - great perspective and this is on the same path that I'm headed down.

Ignore the fact that these are 8ba heads. I'm swapping to earlier style 59a heads for the center outlet, I just have not had a chance to do so yet (anybody need a set of heads!?). The NOS Fenton is a neat part, it only picks up 2 head bolts instead of two - it's also designed for an 8ba head. Nevermind the jaggy casting...

My big question - is the strap mount powergen different from the front mount unit they sell?

For context, it's a '28 on '32 rails that have been narrowed, not pinched. My motor sits lower and I'll likely be running a hood top, no sides. PXL_20220630_025205916.jpg

I remember deciding on this quite a few year back, I went with the strap because I thought it looked a bit cooler. I am pretty sure the gen is the same other than the cast front end that is one piece with the mount. I haven't seen one in a few years so I am not sure.

When I purchased mine it came as a shorty or long version. I went with the longer one obviously.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I just spoke with Powermaster and that was sort of helpful... but not. HA!
The strap mount is obviously for '49+ motors and the mount is completely different. Again, doesn't help me as my concern is more alignment as I run truck pumps, etc.
