Haha, no big deal, just every time someone had 8 tracks for sale at a swap meet I would dig through them. Most of them cost me a buck a piece... pretty harmless fun if you think about it

My wife car pooled with a couple of other girls. She drove an OT Eldorado. One day she came home and said I need a newer car. One of the girls bought a new cassette tape and wanted to play it on the way home. My wife told her "I have an 8 track". I said you have an AM FM 8 track CB that is as deluxe as it gets.

I've got a couple of tapes laying around:):). Quite a few Boston also. ( this isn't all of them, each car with an 8 track has a case in it. ) thumbnail.jpg

I was walking the swap meet at the Rocky Mtn nats, a dad & his young teenage daughter were checking out some items. She asks "what are these ?" Dad answers that those are 8 tracks. She asks if they are video games ? He explained what they are & I felt a lot older.

Back in the 70's, when I was a teenager, the first time I heard this kick ass album, it literally changed my life and for sure my driving habits.

Becks searing hot version, of the classic "Goin Down" to me is the definitive peddle to the metal, drive fast and take chances music!

All of the tunes on this album are great, but "Goin Down" to me is still one kick ass tune, that when you hear it and drive fast to it, well lets just say, "You will understand it"
    The louder, the better!

    Go for it!
    Thanks from Dennis.

I’ve must of been living under a rock listening to Crosby stills and Nash, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath during my teen years because I’ve not ever heard this song or the band.

  15. Gotta remember, those 8tracks could eat up your favorite tapes, mast keep extras. :D HRP

I never had any stereo stuff. My 56 was to loud to hear it. At night I would turn the engine off about a 1/4 mile from our house, and coast on in.

    Hey @Petejoe
I grew up listening to all of those bands that you listed.
Jeff Beck wasn't on my radar at that moment, because back then and for a lot of years later, you just never heard his music played on any radio stations, which was sad, because this guy was a guitar ace from many years ago in the band "The Yardbirds", which featured Jimmy Page, and also Eric Clapton.

Do yourself a huge favor and explore the long list of his great albums," Blow by Blow", is a great one as is "Wired" Check out the album "Jeff Becks Guitar Shop"

Just so you know, Jeff Beck was a true Hot Rod guy as well, and he did all of his own work on his cars.

I got married in May, 1976. When we got home from our honeymoon, we stopped by J.C.Penny and I bought an 8 track tape player for the car, and a new stereo for home with an 8 track tape.

That car trip to Florida was the first time we experienced not being able to listen to a radio station on a trip!

Penneys used to sell some pretty good audio equipment. I think it was Technics built? I remember having a receiver, tape deck and linear tracking turntable. Good stuff back in the day.

Don't remember what brand name was on the 8 track, nor the home stereo, about all I remember was the 3 day drive searching for a radio station about every 50-60 miles. We bought the 8 track player, and a home stereo with an 8 track player, and probably a few 8 track tapes. I remember handing over $200 (in 1976 dollars), to the sales clerk and getting less then $10 back. Both were good quality at the time. Both lasted several years for us.
That was probably the last time I bought a new tape player (or a radio) for a car. I started parting out cars shortly after that, and many of them came with aftermarket radios & tape players.

You never heard of Jeff Beck? Or Boston? Either way, yeah you must've been living under a rock.

Somewhere in my stash I have the factory AM/FM radio w/ 8-track that came in my '70 Chevelle SS396. The tapes slide in through the radio dial that flips up. I have a stash of 8-track tapes too. It's all buried under a bunch of other crap out in the back yard shed.

Progression in my time: AM radio. FM converter. AM -FM radios. 8 track players. AM radios with 8 track player. AM- FM radios with 8 track players. Cassette players. AM -FM radios with Cassette players. CB radios. AM- FM-Cassette players with CB radios. CD players. AM- FM- CD players. CD stack players.
Good thing I didn't have to buy all those radios/players! Buying the 8 tracks, then the cassettes, then the CDs was bad enough.
These days its blue tooth speakers to connect to your phone or MP3 player, or what ever, don't even need a radio.

Radio sucks these days anyway, at least in So Cal it does. Might as well just listen to talk radio on the AM dial as to listen to the crap they play on FM.

^ Yep, back to square one. Neither my 48 Plymouth business coupe nor my 49 Dodge pickup have a radio of any kind.

When I got married in New Orleans back in 2013, I discovered the great independent, listener supported, non commercial radio station WWOZ 90.7 FM, which has great jazz and blues, and Latin, and Cajun, and funk music.
Absolutely an amazing variety of great music around the clock and it's easy to listen to via live streaming!
WWOZ, is owned by the New Orleans jazz and heritage foundation.
If you know what I am talking about, then you get it, give a listen, you just might be introduced to some great music that you have never heard before!
    Thanks from Dennis.
