Cars with flats, blowouts, overheating etc. on the roadside was NOT uncommon, even into the 60's We should be glad they don't build them like they used to.
To me it’s the reason we improve them with rear ends to slow down the RPM from when 55 was the Federal speed limit, add disc brakes, radial tires, and other creature comforts so we can use them and feel safe with our families. Purists can look at them in museums but don’t say we ruined the cars.
