If running a record (or near record) speed would be considered a REAL SUCCESS for @Lucky Burton ...just curious why 75% of HAMBers are predicting/rooting for failure:(. Is it just for a free T Shirt? Just seems wrong.:(

    ". . . just curious why 75% of HAMBers are predicting/rooting for failure . . ."

Well, flathead-powered entries were not now or ever rare at Bonneville. The record is from 2013 at 156. So's there's been lots of competition through the years. It's definitely not a cherry-picking one at all. And it was a Lattin-Stevens entry who also hold the unblown XXF record at 182, 20 MPH over the blown XXF record. That're some sizable records from a well-known team. Yes, they can be beaten, but it ain't easy.

  6. Being realistic is not predicting or rooting for failure. Lots and lots of people go to Bonneyville every year hoping to break a record and lots of them don't achieve those goals. I doubt they or any of the other competitors consider them failures.

Ok so we are on the road but I felt compelled to respond to this. first of all yes the record is 156. Every mph equates to dollars. I am no a rich man and did not spend 30k to go after that record. Can I do it? Yes maybe but probably not I don’t really know that’s why I do it. In no way do o think Any of these guesses are insulting! In fact a lot of these guys know Exactly how hard it is to push a flathead. At any rate this was simply to invoke some like minded guys in my quest. Supposed to be fun….

Since your doing multiple runs I am guessing for one of the early runs. 125.575 hope you knock out your personal best.

Sorry Lucky, I just thought there should be a lot more confidence in (and encouragement for) a fellow HAMBer. The car is absolutely beautiful...it looks like record breaker to me:) Wish you all the luck possible...and a 40
    mph tail-wind (both ways) :D

Sorry you mis-read my post...again refering to some of the "low speed guesses"...I should have been more clear and said:
"I just thought there should be a lot more confidence in (and encouragement for) a fellow HAMBer...who is going for a record run."

Every run you make is a potential record-qualifying run. Sometimes you gotta creep up on it, maybe for a year or two or more. If you pay good attention you'll learn something on each run. Here's a not very sophisticated chart that we kept thru the years. I'm sure Lucky does this better.

For injected gas, you were quite consistent, jetting can be like balancing a BB on a razor blade, as the corrected altitude changes in a hurry.

Thanx, Marty. We worked hard at going faster without breaking anything -- which you can certainly do on any one run. Proud to have set 4 "C" records at Bonneville over the years in a very competitive class.

(Also glad to have had a street-licensed old car without phony headlights, doors that don't door, disappearing body seams, etc. And wrestling the records back with competitors that could not cut it at SpeedWeek and cheated it away at the smaller meets when no one was looking or even remembering that they were tossed out of Impound. Bitter -- until the wrongs were righted.)

How much $$$$ did you dump into your flathead engine since last August?
