Let’s play a game. If you were building a truck for the inside show scene in 1962ish….what just pops into your head?

I have a vision for my little 36 Ford pickup that I have had since I was 2. I’m 54 now. This will be the 3rd and final rendition, so it has to be right.

    • The plan mild chop 2-3/4”
    • Metallic paint, panel striped and outlined Ford script on tailgate
    • Chrome hinges and hinge rod
    • Wimbledon white firewall
    • White tuck and roll interior
    • White tuck and roll tonneau cover
    • Tuck and Roll spare store cover
    • Running boards either painted white or pleated to match(undecided)
    • Chrome steelies with spider caps and WWW 5.60-15 on the front and 7.50-15 on the rear
    • Chrome nerf bar rear, hoop
    • Chrome nerf uprights on the front
    • Traditional louvers in the hood
    • Hood tops only-open sides
    • Cadillac 390 with 2x4 intake (Weiand) or 301/327 with 2x4 intake (Say Why-And)
    • Chrome mushroom style air cleaners
    • 1942 Buick tail lights
    • Belly burners
    • 1940 Ford dash
    • Manual transmission
That’s kinda where I am at.
    input?

    Thanks
    Root

I wasn't there, but I think WWW were passé by 1962. You probably want 1' whites.

    I wouldn’t trade a 36 dash for a 40

What screams '62 show car? I'm thinking cabinet door knobs for grill decoration....not that I ever understood that. Heck....I was only 10, yet somehow, despite the gaudy grill decoration, I grew to become a gear head.

  8. When I think of a '62 show car my mind goes to Barris, like the Ala Kart or something similar. I think your ideas are pretty spot on. "Where were you in 62?" I was there but tucked away in a far corner of the deep south.
What tha heck is a belly burner?

    .................**
.........On second thought, yea...... let's forget about it.

I’m torn on this one. I find evidence of both. To me the skinny whites remind me of my grandpa’s 78 LTD. There may have to be artistic concessions. I wasn’t there either. I’m a 68 model.

I'm one of those that would keep a low profile in a corner with all the details that were passe by 62...the sum of my parts in this inspired put it into the potential to be in that era of Show...would'nt win any awards but it would inspire some...I take great pride in escaping back to a time I was to young to experience...kudos to the builder for the ability to step back plausibly...they'd have a gun to my head to clean it up too...:p...I drive rather than polish...and it still looks good...

I have owned a 35 and a 36 ford p.u. had to sell both of them. I found this drawing years ago. Always wanted to build this but never found another 36. This would make a killer custom 36. Scan 25.jpg

  24. Custom or hot rod show car ?

for a custom you need canted quads and upholstered wheel wells and pick up bed !!

hot rod , I think you got the right recipe ;)

Quad headlights are definitely out. There are certain cars they look good on….the majority not.
@papa's 39 koop . I really dig the scallops….I may have to use that idea.
