Projects What screams 1962 show car to you?

I skipped past most the replies but I think your in the right track.

there’s a mid 30’s to 40 ford shop pickup from maybe Winfield or Barris in that era that is coming to mind that I might compare for reference. I’ll dig threw some books and see if I can find it.

I also, kinda think of the 58 in American graffiti. I think you’ve got the vibe right and that’s what’s important

 

Some of the customs were too radical for me, although the time, effort & metal working talent put forth was certainly appreciated. Not the norm for most custom car guru's but always thought the custom thing was most appealing when done as if it were a concept car of sorts.

 

I'll add Ed Roth or George Barris-style shifter knob, as well as laminated lucite dash knobs...

 

Gene Winfield had a 36 with pass car fenders on the rear.

I like Lucite knobs also…..

Norm's Cooky Car was my fav*****,as it really drove,Show an Go, and then Roth's "The Outlaw"my #2 fav. that was just pushed around,but looked great ! Even if a bit less usability,I never saw it run at any of the shows I was at.
I really loved doing the indoor shows,all around Florida in the early 1960s with my own cars,miss that a lot.
Now days most of those big places we had them in, are gone ,and the few left are now super high $$$$$$ too rent for a show of any type< In small part do too "AC" has been added vs the big fans, plus the public now days are mostly pussy's ,an must have AC*=times change,added to John Doe public ,no longer sees or knows crap about cars !{ They all look alike to him/her}
So screaming show car" is not very loud ,no one looks forward too new next year model now. All will still make the very same shadow as last year. I want to go back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Were is my cry towel!

62 was kind of the change over time from wide white to narrow lines. We have 1 3/4" wides on Taboo now but it had wide whites when it was first built in 59. On the tonneau cover, I saw alot of tuck n roll inserts in various shapes in the middle of the cover. Not the whole thing with tuck and roll. All the inner fenders either painted white or have a tuck and roll insert. lake pipes down the side under the running board along with the belly burners. Potentially have shaved door handles. Then if trying to be a super high dollar show car of the era, chrome anything that fits in the tank, loll. Also bucket seats out of a Impala which would have been brand new in 62. While the candy cane style interiors were popular, this is what Taboo had during its original show era.

I love the color, not for the “60s show” look though
But it has some nice subtle things going on that would look great with some wild flake paint

cant forget the custom pinstriped cans for Oil/Water/Gas. Also a upholstered tool board with chrome wrenches, chrome jack, chrome 4 way wrench. Taboo's twin had a much more done up trunk.

 

Hotrods were Showcars too...just part of the mix...there were followers and lone wolfs...and all in between...Moriarity's posts clearly illustrate a diverse mix...

@Roothawg your mix is just fine...I wouldn't try to change your vision...you've grown with this Culture enough to fit right into the land of black and white...even your Dad had it show ready...probably with trophys to boot...that truck Moriarity shared is a nice one...

Some argue www's don't belong on Hotrods and some say Trucks can't be Hotrods...I call BS to both those anologies...you can even mix a little custom in with the Hotrod or vice versa...there were many Hybrids that looked good doing it...

Looking at the pics posted looks like 62 had a lot of transitioning going on.

62 is just a random date I picked. Nothing significant about it. I tend to gravitate towards cars built in 1958-1962. I can almost date a pic from the warm fuzzy I get.

 

This wasn't your Button Tufted Goldie was it?
