    Hello,

Back in the Winter of 1959, I took a film at an all day drag racing event at the Riverside Raceway in So Cal. It stood out as a fast racer/street class cruiser from our standpoint. The 40 Ford Coupe looked like it was in the throes of building one fast dual purpose car.

We had seen plenty of 1940 Ford Coupes and Sedans in our old Long Beach neighborhood and cruising grounds in Bixby Knolls. One red two door sedan with a Buick motor and 3 speed was always sitting in the parking lot of the local hangout, Grissinger’s. Or, when the parking lot was full, we all moved over one major street to another larger parking lot hamburger place (Ken’s Burgers and next door to the Ken’s Family Restaurant.) with other teens, too. So, there were plenty of places to see cool hot rods and cruisers.

Many year had passed and we had gone through lots of filming escapades, having fun in our Flathead 40 Ford Sedan Delivery and later after high school, a 327 powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery for our cruises up and down the coast.

But every time I saw the old Riverside 1940 Ford Coupe film, I liked it then and it brought back tons of memories from those high school adventures.

So, when I came across these photos of a cool, red 1940 Ford Coupe, it had a gold stripe and was connected to the old Dragmaster racing group from Carlsbad, Ca.

This 1940 Ford coupe was once owned and raced by Mike Bamber and was last run in 1959. (prior to his Silver Dollar Willy pickup days…)

Here are some photos from the "Silver Dollar" A/GS prior to all of the sponsorship logos.

"Originally powered by a Latham supercharged small block Chevy, which went onto power the Willys, it ran constant 10s at the drags before gaining an injected 283 punched out to 348. When he ran as part of the Dragmaster’s team he refused to paint the car gold but agreed to add the stripes as a compromise."

A Riverside Raceway 1959, possible Dragmaster Company Red 1940 Ford Coupe?

Love the interior, wonder how long before the mods remove it due to the wheels.

as soon as I saw it poof gone, ultra modern builds with billet wheels, billet steering wheel billet inside door handles, late model seats and smooth running boards sure as hell don't belong here...

  25. That's Kenny Mutert's '40. He lives west of the St Louis area out near Wentzville.

NASTY little small block and a 4 speed shifted on the stock column.
