    Hello,

My wife and I have been together since our junior year in college, 1966. We have driven all over California, Baja, Mexico and up/down the California coastlines so many times that it became old hat, but still there were plenty of different things we did and saw each time. As we got older and left college, our daily drivers kept the traveling in place.

After we got married and started getting our act together, we even decided together to build a project hot rod. We searched all over So Cal, but we needed something to continue our road trips in conjunction with our newly found freedom of being together. The 1965 El Camino did most of the thousands of road trip miles. But, the El Camino meant to spend the night in a motel somewhere. We did camp out in the bed several times, so it got some use.

Our choice was something that was going to allow us to be enclosed overnight, securely. So, after spending many months repairing, replacing, and refurbishing the project sedan delivery we found, it was finished. Well, almost finished, the 327 powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery picked up where we left off in coastal So Cal and into the Northern Cal locations.

It was nice that my wife was one of those women that liked hot rods and road trip cruising. It has paid off quite well in our total travels, now, after we used up our liking of jets for traveling. Now, we headed up to the PNW many times to see different parts of the area there and along the way on different highways/cities. We were hoping to find something there, as we liked to have a home on an island. The weather is not like So Cal, but we love the inlets, bays and ocean influenced surroundings.

Once we even took a cross country road trip toward the Eastcoast for a planned three month trip all the way to Maine and the Eastern seaboard. Everything was planned out, overnight stops reserved and we were on our way across the USA for a long summer vacation. Sailing in the Chesapeake was on the books as well as in the coastal harbors. For our planned return, sailing on the Great Lakes was also planned as we returned Westward in the Northern half of the country. We had friends in the Lake Erie and Lake Michigan areas.

But, all was not good as we got stuck just outside of St. Louis and it was awful. So, we cancelled our reservations and headed back West for new adventures on different roadways across the Midwest.

Prior to the pandemic, we had been taking road trips to the PNW and all throughout California twice a year depending on weather and specific times of the year. Since the Summer road trip to the East was a road block, that is on permanent hold for the future. But, as retired persons, summer is all year around and we can make any time choice that we choose. New and old friends are always nice to see and enjoy their company.

So, if the PANDEMIC is gone for good and no masks/shots are required, then we will resume our PNW travels and perhaps, visit relatives in the Midwest once again. The East Coast/Atlantic Ocean draw has lessened somewhat with a vacation we took in Palm Beach for a week, before the pandemic. We drove from Miami, up the coast and enjoyed new things. But, the weather was just not our style. The humidity in Florida is a drawback, as well as the crowds.

So Cal has crowds in certain areas, but knowing how to get around them is the key to having enjoyed the wide array of places for all of these years. It may not be some people’s idea of a vacation road trip, but for us, it is home to friends, family-definitely family, and general cool locations that are nowhere else. There are plenty of HAMB activities and folks to last a lifetime out here, too…YRMV

200-300 Miles is my norm... Hop in the 56... I've done almost 800 in a day in her... Its rough but she will take it fine, but myself Its getting rougher some days to think of doing it. The banger coupe, I've done 50 miles one way and back so far in her, but I think she will do fine probably to 200 miles If I chose to do it... Just doing it on the freeways around Houston is hard, she cruises 60-65 pretty stellar, our traffic moves at 80 normally...And our drunk drivers are out of control down here these days... I have found more and more enjoyment on the back roads anyways....

The thing about regionals, Texas is bigger than most regions out there... Roundup is almost a regional but way too much of a cluster to really get a meet and greet with you guys... Other issue is traffic, its stupid everywhere around big cities... Hotrod showdown I got to meet a few of you...

After driving 200 miles a day commuting across town for work for YEARS, now working from home
has made me really hate traffic and city life more and more.

So whatever is done, make it where we can enjoy the ride and the area.

But not much in the “meet-up” or at least I don’t here about any on the Site…I’m not a good organizer but would show up.
