Today's efforts. Not bad for a garage paint job. So I have the hood, hood sides and one door left. Then I will start on the main body. It has been blocked a few times but still needs at least one more. These repo bodies are no where near straight.

Still plugging away at the painting. Sprayed the last door today and have been color sanding some of the other parts that have been painted. Several pieces ready for buffing. I have taken over one of the guest bedrooms with the painted parts. :D

Current plan is to finish up the color sanding and buffing in the next couple of weeks then start on the main body. I am trying to get it done before the summer gets here and it gets hot. Not sure if I will make it.

    Thanks,

Yeah I tried a couple of things but ended up just sanding it down to the last layer of good primer. I think it is coming out well for a first timer shooting in a garage. It's a hot rod not a show car after all.

    Thanks,

Hood and side panels look great, and looks like we'll be cleaning or replacing the carpet in the drying/extra bedroom before the roadster gets carpet.

Still figuring out this painting thing. Pretty much, if you can screw it up, I have done it. Dry spray, over spray, dirt in the paint, hose in the paint, runs, sags, orange peel, sanding scratches, cutting through the paint several times and last but not least, dropping a piece on the concrete just before final painting. Here is the first piece I am happy with.

    PXL_20220520_205427071.jpg
This was sprayed with a Devilbiss Pro Lite gun with a 1.3 tip @ 30 lbs of pressure. Eastwood single stage with 20% reducer. Sanded with 1500 (because of all the dust) & 3000 on a 3M RA sander. Then cut & buffed with the 3M line of products. Now I just need to get the rest of the pieces to look like this. Slowly getting there.

    Thanks,

No progress on the roadster due to the heat and humidity here in N. Florida. Plus all my folding cash is going into the truck right now. I thought I would share this beautiful V8-60 axle Andy Kohler dropped 1" for me today.

Eventually it and the '55 331 Caddy will go into something, just not sure what yet. Full custom '35 maybe?

I'm on and off here these days but every time I chime in there is greatness to witness and hints as to what to look forward to in the near future...great stuff Louis...that door looks fantastic. Andy's work is a joy to witness as well...balancing out the stable with a Custom sounds just awesome...

Have just found & read through your story, such a big effort on the engine! & a great outcome on the paintwork! It's a lovely car coming together, looking forward to see more progress.
& while it's stealing funds for this car, any pics (or build thread) for the truck?

The weather is starting to cool off and the Jimmy is close to being done so thoughts have turned back to the roadster. I decided to throw together a paint both from some scrap lumber in the hopes of improving my painting results.

At this point it is more of a proof of concept since only the small pieces will fit. I will have to expand it for the body. (And figure out how to get the body inside)

Not really car related but more garage related I also spent some time this summer reorganizing the garage. Made this French cleat wall for hanging tools.

Remember, cleanliness is next to impossible. (In a shop)

    Thanks,

Louis, Think I would just go right down the middle of the garage with your plastic wall and put the exhaust fan out the door. Basically make the half of the garage the body is in the booth.
    PS. the door looks bitchen.

  18. I made a very similar paint booth two winters ago when I painted my F100 frame. I hinged the door that faced the end of the garage. Swung the door open, moved the frame inside and closed the door behind it.

Been an interesting week. I missed TROG due to the Hurricane but fortunately, also missed the Hurricane. We didn't even get any rain here in the Florida Panhandle. What we did get was some great weather for this early in October so I jumped back on the roadster.

Plan A was to finish out the last door and get it in color but it looks like my epoxy primer went bad. I sprayed on a coat and then waited 24 hours but it wouldn't fully cure. It just turned into this sort of semi soft putty that gummed up a lot of sand paper. So I ended up using paint stripper and took it down a couple of layers until it looked okay. I was worried I was going to have to take it down to bare metal and that would be a real pain. Two steps forward, one step back. I should get that tattooed some where on my body. Tramp stamp anyone?

Plan B, while I wait on the big brown van to bring me more primer, was to work on the main body. I pulled it out of storage and cleaned it off. It has been sitting in the shop for a couple of years buried under blankets and spare parts so it was pretty dirty. I guess this is what happens when you have a long, long, long term project. Cleaned it off and then spent two hour laying on my back undercoating the bottom with Raptor bed liner. I think I managed to get as much on me as I did the car.

Hopefully I will have some new primer by Monday and can get back to spraying.

Any updates on that engine? You need me to drive to texas and put a foot in the ass of a certain engine builder?

If you could kick Scat in the ass I would appreciate it. We have been waiting six months on rods for a 4" crank.

I have been very busy with life lately so the project is pretty much on long term hold. I might be taking a new job in February which will take more of my time. I have been kicking around the idea of sending it to Andy to finish out later next year as I am not sure when I will have time to get back to it. Right now we are focused on getting the truck done.
