We just got home from a GREAT weekend at "Relix Riot" at the Gilmore Museum, hosted by my pals in the "Relix" CC from Grand Rapids. My goal 2 years ago when I started the the '29 was to have it there for this show, and I made it. Just barely. A couple last minute glitches last week had me up against the wall, but thanks to "Tanks Inc.", and Summit Racing for getting me a new, non leaking fuel tank and a Pertronix ignition module delivered in less than 36 hours, I had the car running and drove it there Wednesday afternoon. It has a couple little teething issues to look at: the brake pushrod needs to be adjusted as there's not quite enough free travel in the pedal, the brake light switch needs adjusted, but those are pretty minor things. It starts instantly, the little 276 DeSoto Hemi runs GREAT, it handles like a go kart, the steering is light and quick, the Wilson Welding brakes with Buick drums feel very capable, and the car got lots of compliments on the color and engine choice. I didn't get the windshield gl*** cut, but I was able to glue the Lexan pattern pieces in with little dabs of clear silicone, and the interior isn't upholstered. The gl*** I'll have cut and installed in the Hallock frame this week, and my wife said she thinks we can do the interior ourselves in leather and body cloth left over from the DeSoto wagon. It's going to be a FUN car.
Looks good on the gr***. The windshield, firewall and valve covers add to the uniqueness of your ride. I bet you got lots of discussion at the show.
Far out buddy! Glad you made it and had a nice time...and you didn't get rear ended! That's a plus. Meanwhile some ***hat ran into my new PU and smashed my rear bumper and ran off. Some peoples kids!
We had a similar thing happen 3 weeks ago with my wife's Chrysler 300. Some guy in the left lane decided he had to turn right into a gas station. Which would have been doable if we hadn't been right beside him in the right lane. Pushed us over the curb into the station where we stopped in front of the pumps. The guy pulled in, I walked up to the drivers door where the driver said, "I didn't even see you." "I got that", I said, and he then pulled around to the back of the convenience store and didn't come out. I walked back to the truck, and the "driver" then got out of the p***enger side. I said to him, "Wait, YOU were driving", he replied, "Oh no, my buddy was. Ain't nobody gonna be fleeing", whereupon I turned to my wife and said, "These guys are gonna leave." Sure enough, after a couple minutes, they drove off. ANOTHER guy then shows up, comes up to me setting in the car and says, "That's my wife's rental car, and I really don't want the cops involved. How much do you think the damage is?" "Between and $4-5 thousand", I said. Then he drove off. The estimate was $4,200. Of course now we're waiting for parts. Fender, door skin, rocker cladding, paint. Pearl white. I know it'll never match...
Damn, we gotta be more like our kids, keep the phone in your hand at all times and take pics. Lol. I don’t want to turn this into a hit and run thread, so I’ll just say that’s a fine car! And the best thing is the ignition system worked well for the whole trip! Drive the balls off of it.
Haha! I DID take photos of the plate, and gave 'em to the officer. Re: Ignition system, despite all the ***urances to the contrary from experts here, it worked all weekend, and is STILL working! Gl*** being cut even as we speak, interior on deck. My wife is going to get involved with that as opposed to having some flake like we had do the wagon.
