  17. Landy's Dodge above ^^^^^^^^^^ You can see the buckles in the 1/4 panels as it launches. It was said the hardtops would buckle and the post cars would not. That's why most altered wheelbase cars are post cars.

You can bet The Old Man saw it, and the excessive camber, and shortly thereafter was correcting. Not a guy to make the same error repeatedly. And he probably can recite the year and track location today.

And probably his elapsed time, speed, opponent and what he ran the first time after he corrected it.

    Cyr and Hopper 1959

    Hello,

The drag racing world was changing fast, even in the late 50s to the 1960 season. What was once the “Fastest Single Engine Car In The World,” Ted Cyr and Bill Hopper’s Chassis Research Co. FED made believers out of everyone. All over So Cal dragstrips, people were amazed. Their history goes back to the win in the U.S. Nationals years earlier.

At :11 MOST exciting race from 1959 Colburn Glaze new Competiton Coupe vs Cyr/Hopper

Bill Colburn had a series of Competition Coupes from many years prior to 1959. Some looked cool, some odd looking and they all gave his company, Colburn Glaze Wax a great advertising for his products. Most people that saw his early versions were always calling it Colburn Glaze, not knowing it was Bill Colburn that owned the company and built his line of coupes. Check out the HAMB information on Colburn Glaze…

Prior to “the” race at Riverside, I had taken a film of one of the early versions of the Competition Coupe at Lion’s Dragstrip.

But, as a fleeting memory goes, one pops up, just as fast. In 1960, Cyr and Hopper now had the “World’s Fastest Chevy In The World.”
    upload_2022-8-24_5-13-48.png
One big surprise was that the team of Cyr and Hopper went from a big Hemi powered FED that won almost everything possible in drag racing, to a Dragmaster Chassis with a Potvin supercharged SBC motor.

Then, it was, Cyr and Hopper, Dragmaster, “World’s Fastest Chevy powered FED.” DRAG NEWS 1959-60)

The new challenge was a Potvin styled 671 in front of an SBC motor, in a lighter, Dragmaster frame. Instantly, it became known as the “Worlds Fastest Chevy.”
