Finally got Ewan's T outside in the sun for the first time!

It does need to go up about 1" to 2" in the back just to get the Fender arch slightly above the Rear tire tread. That means I will need to swap out the reverse eye main leaf for a stock one and possibly a shim in the spring pocket. I added some blocks under the body to test this..

Also quite pleased with the fit inside. Seem to have really good room..

Also have to cut down this shell so that it matches the cowl correctly. Thinking of lowering it on the frame (like the Spencer Deuce) rather then sectioning it. Thoughts?

Turned out great; much better than I think I could have done.

I vote lowering the shell rather than cutting it. Jut my $0.02 worth.

Lower the shell. Much better visual than sectioning it.

Honestly, I agree. My own critical eye sees the issues and they are of course not perfect. Honestly, I could do better, but that is for next time.

I agree. I have always preferred a full-length, unfilled '32 shells. The Spencer Deuce roadster has always been a benchmark so I think that is the way to go over sectioning it.

  5. You gotta put a smaller tire on the front like everyone else....With that larger one on there it looks to authentic...

I’d be tempted to do both. Channel it down for the height then chop it down low to raise the chin a hair.

might work stock “height” because of its stance but on most T’s with a stock height 32 shell it just looks like it’s hanging way lower than the rest of the body to me. I’m sure you’ll nail it regardless of your chosen method

Maybe the folks over on the Photoshop thread can show you what it would look like full height but lower, sectioned, and channeled down and then sectioned like Tim mentioned. @The Moose is really good at that stuff.

That is a possibility, we aren't that far yet. I just think a '32 shell looks better longer then shorter, but obviously if it hangs down to low that will be an issue. Finding that happy spot will take some work before we cut.

That would be helpful. I can do some, just haven'thadmuch time. I can provide whatever photos anyone might need.

Sounds like I can put them to work!

Sit the grill on the car with no channel or section and I can mock it up a few different ways easy enough :)

  15. Lots of room for that to come down. How much too high is it now? JW

Just another voice from the old days. I like to see the '32 shell tucked between and below the frame rails so that the top of the filled section behind the crank hole is even with the crossmember. Then section the critter to the proper height. Proportion, proportion, proportion...... If it's left too tall, even if the top is level, it always looks like the rest of he car chasing the shell around.....

Just a tad more...... I've always thought that '32 shells were too bulky for the petite Model T, just like Model T bodies are too small for '32 frames. Just say'n......

Personally I don't like a deuce shell on a T, it is too big to fit well IMO

Get to it afterwards. I can do it pretty quick for ‘look see’

I think I kept it straight and A is full height dropped and B is chopped and not dropped

Rough call. I do like the axle being covered by the grill, but I also think the shorter overall height is more flattering.

guess that lands back to half channel and half chop? Maybe I’ll try that in a minute

After seeing these photoshops I'll have to change my opinion. I think the full height shell is just too massive.

ADA3D3C1-B92B-4D3E-9ECD-4BDD478C794F.jpeg Chopped and dropped. Didn’t half any of the proportions like I had mentioned but gets the idea

    The Cowl stands at 23" +/- 0.5"

    The shell stands at 26-1/2"

Go Full height and add a belly pan to round it out.

I agree, this is the most important thing. There will be a sweet spot on this car for sure.

It really is. The thing I want to avoid is it being too short (making it wide and goofy looking) and too tall (like it's scraping the pavement.

I do prefer the look of a longer, more slender looking full-length shell so i want to keep to that as closelyas proportions allow. This is the main inspiration for the car as a whole (Timmy is a good friend of mine and a club mate):

    ford-t-roadster-2_1568073420447.jpg

    Screenshot_20210927-115617_Instagram.jpg

And these are some of the inspiration I have picked up from over the years. I know it's not a '32 Roadster or Coupe...but you get the idea of the direction I was looking..

I'm almost thinking lower the shell enough to bring the chin down just above the lower lip of the i-beam axle, then section out the difference to make it level with the top of the cowl.

Here is my own (rustier) photoshop i did a year or so ago as a proof of concept:

    Ewan_Road.jpg

True, in some cases. There are some '26-'27 roadsters that look KILLER with a '32 shell. Likewise I have seen '32 Fords with their own shell done poorly.
