History Interesting WW2 ration stickers, tag topper and a couple other odds and ends

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Aug 28, 2022.

  1. This model A had a few interesting stickers. Reproduced? I don’t know. I overheard the owner say he found these with the car. I know the tag topper is reproduced.

I know my dad and grand parents used smudge pots in the grape vineyard if it was going to frost. But I always figured they went out on the tractor;)

  11. Yep, smudge pots. My first summer job many moons ago was at the DOT, and those pots were still being used at the time.
From a couple that I have seen, the ration stuff is real or accurately reproduced.

Somewhere in my stash, I have a 1943 license plate year overlay. Virginia issued new plates every year up to 1973, except 1943, when they just issued a small square 43 to put over the 42. Metal savings for the war.

  13. If it’s fake at least the guy printed the paperwork to match the tag number:)

  16. I think they served the same purpose in citrus groves as well. Filled with kerosene or diesel fuel?

But it has some serious brazing going on.
I’d drive it. The owner was.
I’d clean up the wiring though. The flathead sounded great

The reason I think that the 1943 Ohio sticker is from www.inspectionsticker.net is because if you look closely at the sticker, the plate number B 454 C is printed on the sticker. The real sticker would have been filled in in pen. Bob offers that printing service with his stickers.

  22. Kerosene worked better in the smudge pots. Less smoke, easier to light. Use to grow legs quite frequently when left overnight on the road.

Real or fake it’s an interesting period in history.

It looks as if there’s air bubbles under the stickers. Doubt if they would last this long that way.

    Close up on the 60.
first time I’ve seen this piece.

  27. The marettes are a nice touch. Should probably open the other side of the hood if he wants to show off the engine.
