  1. Pertronix let me down several times so I use factory stock distributors with Points and condencer one set in the dist. and one set ob the glove box for roadside fun.

--maybe try Pertronix next time - Ha! After one or two failures did you look for the cause?

  3. Nope, I put a regular dist back in and problems went away with no further research required. We need more school teachers here checking our spelling, you're elected. JW

Some guys just can't accept that their way isn't the only way. I'm happy for 'em, just like I'm happy that the Amish are happy believing that the lifestyle of the 1890's is the pinnacle of civilization. :p Rumspringen seems like a cool idea, so there's that...

  6. Brian, every gasoline powered tractor on our farm has Pertronix installed by yours truly. They all have the matching coil as well. My O/T 351w E-250 has it and my 1953 IHC R-130 dump truck has it too. This is close to 20 engines so equipped. They have been like that for 10 years. No problems at all. Some sit for most of the year and then get run hard for 2-3 weeks, some get used daily. They all start and run great. To each their own, but I’m not buying anymore points.

If you're happy with points and condenser by all means, keep using 'em. I don't get all the hate towards using any electronic ignition though.
In 1978 I bought a new Oldsmobile with a 350 and, naturally, an HEI ignition. At the time, an older mechanic I worked with warned me to pack a 'care package' with a spare module and tools to change it, since it was likely to fail at anytime. So that's what I did. When I sold the car 20 years later that same module was still in the glove compartment; I never needed it.
I guess ya just never know.

I was trying to point out the chance of ruining a tire is way higher than having your electronic ignition fail. Do you have a jack or spare on your rod?

I was already sold. ;) Now, if I could just get those damn Dayton wires to stop eating inner tubes...

So, it's YOUR fault I had a flat last night on the left front! The obvious answer is, "Where would I put a spare in this car? Today I'm gonna break that tire down and see why that wheel repeatedly chafes tubes. These are supposed to be tubeless, but the epoxy seal over the spoke ******s leaks, so I put tubes in the tires. There has to be something with that rim, this is the third flat with it, on two different cars. I like the wires, but I don't like flat tires. Almost as much as I don't like points... 75D4996A-2D2C-443F-BA4E-45228890F602.jpeg

I ran wires when I had my Sunbeam and used good duct tape in the drop center over the wire and it worked.

If you consider that thousands of people have used this technology with no problems at all, for decades and thousands and thousands of miles, but you had several fail on you, maybe it wasn't the Pertronix. I'm just sayin....

  14. LOL! Bet you are on to something.

Wow, 136 posts, longest running Pertronix thread in Hamb history. I may have missed something, anyone care to sum it up in one sentence?

Pertronix s**ks, and pertronics is the best thing since sliced bread. These two statements tend to alternate through the replys.
