three hundred people in the same state will "like' your post and say they have five just like it in better shape for less money
looks like it's time to start drinking again and give the fuck up on cars altogether

but yeah, it's hard to sell stuff that few people want. If you had better junk, you'd have no problem.

 

I’ve had good luck with FB Marketplace and even CL, but there are flakes everywhere! You’re in Florida. Why not put what you want to sell onto a piece of paper and then put your phone number on pull tabs at the bottom, then take it to the local non-chain breakfast place and put it up on their bulletin board. Go old school on selling your old school stuff. Then the only callers will be local. It worked before the innertube, maybe it’s time for a comeback?!

I've found that you can put an encyclopedia's worth of information in a posting and people don't bother reading it.
it's a constant game of twenty questions. post a dozen pictures from every angle and STILL get "get a picture of it in front of the Lincoln Memorial for me?"

 

I'm with you on this...especially those that don't read the damn posting. Ugh.

 

Always more fun to buy cool stuff that it is to sell it.

 

Not quite related but I saw a bead roller on Alibaba for about $150 or so with shipping at $7000.

It's how the game is played. Sell it yourself and endure the grief in hopes of max dollars, or sell it to a wholesaler/picker and let them deal with all the quirky buyers. When my brother upgrades equipment in his commercial shop, he usually ends up trading or giving away the old stuff. Not worth his time. I'm usually his first call but I'm maxed out of space.

 

I enjoy being second on this list...

Sounds like you're asking top dollar and getting the typical resultant tire tickers.

 

They won't read the whole description and don't tend to click on a link to a site where you have more info or a lot more photos.

Had my OT daily driver for sale with either a cracked head or blown head gasket a couple of years ago and that was clearly stated in the add. It was listed as a mechanics special/rebuilder. Had one girl contact me all excited wanting to pick it up and leave for California in it that day.
I finally sold it to a guy who rebuilds and flips that model of Cadillac for pocket change as I was tired of fooling with fools.

On the other hand, I sold my Model A body and frame to a young guy in the Portland area who offered up front to pay me to haul it and deliver it. I'm not sure who came out on that deal but I was happy and he was happy and life is good.

 

It's a mine field selling these days. Lot of flakes! I don't do facebook but my daughter does and has recently sold 3 cars (two 40's and a custom high end 40 pickup)and lot so parts for us. Seems to work. I used to do pretty well on ebay but it has gotten a bit iffy as well.

Anyway it's more of a rant than anything else right now. The way the weather has been I haven't been in the shop to work on anything in a couple of months. Florida sunshine comes down measured in inches

Yep Florida is brutal this time of year. I’m so ready for fall.

 

And there’s always that one cat that wants to trade for his ugly tbird and sends 30 pics of it.

 

There’s always the guy that has twenty questions and wants to text even though you have clearly made it known that you don’t text.
The last one that contacted me about a vehicle I had for sale did this, so I played along and when he asked for my lowest price I told him five hundred bucks more than I had it advertised for and he flipped out. I told him so much for the car and five hundred for texting.
A week later I sold the car to a couple that drove sixty miles to pick it up after paying my asking price…

 

When my tools get sold it probably won't be my problem to deal with.

 

I feel ya, we bounced around triple digits for 6/7 weeks, then a few weeks of bouncing around 110. Quick taper last weekend to the low 90’s and will be low 80’s for awhile. It’s nice to go outside and not hate it

Edit: For the OP, I don’t sell much anymore, but when I’d get emails or texts/calls and someone wanted to bargain on the price, I always told them I’ll only bargain in person. I learned quick years back when I was selling a truck. Went through the 50 extra pics thing, agreed on a lower price. Told others that contacted me “truck is sold, sorry”. When the guy showed up, he wanted to bargain on the agreed price. Hated that, decided to just say show up and we can haggle.

 

Hard to sell stuff when guys are giving away El Caminos...

 

My brother has a 64 impala 2 door HT listed on bookface now. He says he’s had about a hundred comments and questions but only one person that plans to come see it. But you know it only takes one person to buy it so I’m sure it’ll sell.

 

I have to go in stages with FB Marketplace, then get completely off for a cool off period.

When I have something listed for $100 and get a first contact offer of 50% or less. I let them know I'll relist the item for $150 so they can feel good about talking me down.

Sometimes it take BS to combat BS.
