Did you notice the nicely dressed young woman in that same picture with heels, a skirt and what looks like a club jacket? I'm pretty sure she's the same one in an earlier picture looking out the open door of a pickup. Pretty lady, what's she doing hanging out with all that hot rod riffraff?
alanp561 thank you, and thanks to Steve Leary. Good quality cars . Another thought about then and now, people were not prone to have multiple cars. For the most part, What you see is what they got.
...Great point, Tom. Back then we knew people by the car that they had and they usually kept it for a long time. All too often today, people have multiple cars (that's fine) and tend to flip 'em if the right offer comes along. I miss those old days where we knew who it was when they pulled into a cruise.
..It was a different time for sure when people seemed to take more pride in how they went out in public...
Thanks for posting these @alanp561 . Seems British Columbia has always been a hot bed of Hot Rodding activity and still is today. Great stuff and yes, some nicely modified cars, not just added on trinkets from J. C. Whitney or Honest Charley.
Thanks for posting Alan, those were neat. You mean they actually drove cars with dents and original paint? And hand painted numbers on them? Only a couple looked like he built it for show.
The picture I wonder about the most is the one with the young boy looking across the engine bay. If he's alive, he'd be somewhere close to my age now. Did his interest go any further than that show? Did he go on to build a car or cars of his own? I hope he did.
I remember someone on here saying that artillery wheels weren't used back in the day. Maybe not, but these work for me.
From the information I got from Steve Leary, the BCCCA club, chapter, or what it's called now is still in operation and they run Mission Raceway, Mission, BC.
Hey Alan !! You just answered my question with this picture. But, I'll put it ut to the HAMB'rs anyway....
@alanp561, that is a seriously cool series of pics that were shared here by Hamber @The Rabid Whippet at the link below...I suspect the fella you speak of is the Hamber, he has a pretty wild wait for it......Whippet... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/bc-custom-car-associaton.821966/page-16#post-12318986
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1929-willys-3-window-hemi-powered-whippet.545908/ Alan this is Rabid's Coupe... Yeah he sure has done the Hotrod/Custom walk...perhaps he will chime in... Paging @The Rabid Whippet... We're ogling your photo collection...
Great pics. I know we've seen this one a few times before. I don't remember seeing any of the others.
Yessir, that's the man. I had no idea that he had posted them before. When I was talking to him, he said that something had happened here and he hadn't been on the HAMB for several years.
The first set are all from the same region according to Steve. We conversed for a long time and he told me that the negatives for those pics were given to him by his mother when his step-dad died. Steve had them printed and what you see is what was there. I don't know where the second set came from but he sent them several hours later.
I would guess he's still got the coupe. At least, it was in the pictures of the inside of what is either his shop, man cave or club house.
