62 Fairlane springs seem to be a one year only type part. I ordered some for a 63 that are short and fat, hence not working. The springs needed seem to be 27 coil windings. I've seen some springs offered from Summit that are close to length and I'm wondering if these would work. Anyone have any leads?

I would suggest you Kroil them at the pivots if they are not opening and closing correctly, that is usually what is causing the binding. Causing the rear hood corners to buckle, all that.

There are a couple of spring makers local to me that can make any spring you would desire.
Check around your area and see if you have one.
Type of ends, wire diameter, number of coils etc. They will need to know.
Mcmaster carr will make them too, not sure if they go that large though.

I ended up with some springs from Summit. W-999. They are the correct length and hopefully the correct spring rate. They fit a Nova II which is about the same weight as the Fairlane hood (48 lbs). I did have to bend one end of the spring so that both end are in line. So far its been working well. Only issue is the rear of the hood stays up after closing. I can easily push it down by hand, but I'm unsure as to why this is an issue. Yes, I did oil the hinges.
