The roadster with the monster engine looks like it might be Count Zborowski's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang number 2.
I'm having a good chuckle with the comments...and also the dot connecting... This is why the Hamb era of focus never gets old just more and more intriguing... It also highlights visual and mechanical inspiration creep from so many facets of the culture...to the street and perhaps vice versa...Genius has no boundaries... This is also why my interests in this Big Picture are so diverse...awesome Thread @Ryan
Man, I love all these CRA shots! That Brewster Town Car is cool! Interesting perspective on So/Cal Delivery, never knew it looked so chopped, even for a " lift off" phaeton! Love those old at speed forward motion pics....
There's a few white knuckle pucker up moments there amongst the Roaring Roadster pics...I'm not sure the head to head moment was planned but it was surly exhilarating as long as no one got hurt, but unfortunately it was quite common in this sport revolving around danger at speed...death was also quite common...but what a beautiful era in Hotrod
A Fire chief parked under a zeppelin? Today, that would be a humorous photoshop, but probably would be dead serious in the 1930s
https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2017/12/bonneville-1961-juggers-racing-team-and.html I'm wondering if this is it...Juggers is the Team associated with much in the Bonneville images...note in the second image shared by Ryan it's near the top left under the a fram hoist blocked up as well...
It looks like an extremely over-complicated solution to a perceived handling problem. Something built by a budding engineer with access to an extremely large parts bin. But in a good way. I like it. But we can't dwell on it. Moriarty's finger has got to be hovering over the delete button at this very moment.
The #999 Streamliner shown in the driveway and Bonneville photos is Bob Herda's Attempt II. It was featured in an early 60's Hot Rod magazine article. It was later known as the Herda Liner, a beautiful blue car very well built. Mick
Do you have any photos of the car Tim? It's not the one from Fresno the guy was trying to pass off as the Larry Neves car awhile back is it?
It looks nothing like that now, I believe sledge had it before him possibly. I’ll find some later tonight if he doesn’t chime in
Boy oh boy. Life as it was. Only once in a forever. You mean they used to actually RACE these little hot rod roadsters? But... that would be dangerous.
Epic, its like you put your hand through my chest, pulled out all the different loves of motoring from this era i have and showed me a new insight ..thankyou wonderful content
Great pictures. A true time machine, thanks to the anonymous member giving them to Ryan to post here, they could have just as easily wound up in a dumpster, I've seen that many times.
If one can't find inspired innovation amongst that group, Check your pulse. Now. for a real tough Question: Pick one? Not for retail, you can't sell it. A lifetime keeper..
If time travel was possible these places would be where I'd go first. What a truly fascinating time in Automobile history.
