Looking for info on holley carb list 4643-1, looked through all the books I have and came up short. For some reason I think it is center carb from a Ford factory tri-power. Using it on my built 200 Ford 6cyl, with 3310 bowl and metering block 5065 [more a sliver color than normal], 6.5 pwr valve. Engine started running real bad [put carb together 30 yrs ago] so I took carb off expecting to find a bunch of dirt inside but what I found was like black mold especially on front side of metering block; all the holes seem clear. Got it soaking in vinegar. Thinking of replacing with a Holley 350cfm staged linkage but don't want to reinvent [tax] my learning curve.
Thanks !! So typ 350cfm 2v. I soaked the metering block in vinegar for a while and rinsed with brake clean and could see some junk coming out. Will do some more soaking tomorrow, afraid to leave it in the Vinegar over night. Anyone mess with a 2305?
Go to the Harbor and pick up one of their Ultrasonic cleaners. I put a little Simple Green and water in mine and ran a Harley carb through it. It came out looking brand new. I’m old enough to remember the real nasty buckets of carb cleaner and the Ultrasonic works better!
Ultrasonic is first thing I thought of. The 'MOLD'' cleaned up ok, seemed to be more of a surface stain. All holes seem clear. Power valve is a little crunchy [after 30yrs only!] so that was probably the root of the problem.
Well, if it was mine, and had run for 30 years, it must be a pretty good carburetor. I check for any wear and tear , shafts etc. And try to save it.
That "black mold" I've seen before, it was the fuel hoses on the car deteriorating. Check them over at junction points like frame to tank and frame to pump. Maybe ethanol, ...maybe just the different light aromatics used in today's pump gas for the electronic fuel injected m***es., I don't know.
FOR E10 - https://www.gates.com/us/en/fluid-p...e-hose.p.4219-000000-000003.v.4219-06038.html E10/E15 will also break down a cellulose fuel filter. Also, a FORD ISSUED HOLLEY will have a FORD ID STAMPING NO.
Pretty much my thought. There are many items in the hose department that are original to the car at 50 years old. I guess its time.
I got the carb cleaned up pretty well; getting the old gaskets off was the hardest part. No Ford part number near the list number. I think I should be all set with a new pwr valve and some gaskets. Just for curiosity sake I looked in Summit for Holley 2v Carbs. $$ for bottom $$$ for built [race]. No 2305 though, maybe not made anymore. Thank you to all for contributed info.
